My son had two schools that were neck and neck in his mind, and he really wanted to go to Tulane.
Unfortunately he saw an article in the Hullabaloo about the school basically not having outdoor club sports anymore because their practice areas were being demolished to make way for the new stadium. The school had no accomodations in mind for the club teams, only that a facility might be built some years in the future that they might be able to use.
My son was sad they didn't have varsity soccer, but not even being able to play club was a deal breaker.
Hope you guys have a kisk ass football team eventually!

It’s better that he follows what’s important to him than that he wind up on a pretty campus, or a great city, and find that what he truly wants is not available. That being said, it’s hard to believe that, at a university such as Tulane, there will be no club sports for any period of time, much less an extended one. However, I did not fact check the story. Did your son? It would probably be worthwhile to do so, if the decision came down to just that. In any event, if he got into Tulane I gather the place he ultimately selected is high caliber as well. Which school is that, if you don’t mind sharing?

NJDad, my son decided on UNC Chapel Hill. We have in-state tuition there. Hard to pick a public over a private for most people I know, but it’s a great school.

High caliber, as I suspected. The sky’s the limit for him. Good luck with that.

I contacted the head of club sports at Tulane, Kim Diemer, who was quoted in the article. While obviously there is concern about not having firm plans in place prior to this stadium construction announcement, there are various options being pursued that will potentially not only keep club sports intact, but possibly improve the situation in terms of available facilities. However, while it looks very positive that something will be done to help club sports thrive at Tulane, I must emphasize that at this point in time nothing has been decided, as various options are continuing to be explored in detail and then will have to be weighed as to their various costs and benefits.

Because she said in her e-mail to me that these options were unannounced and unofficial, I am waiting for her to get back to me if she is OK with me sharing the e-mail verbatim.

There is a lot going on at Tulane in addition to the new stadium. Another new dorm (the 3rd in a few years), a new dining hall, a library addition, and completion of the “plaza” project similar to McAlister Place, but extending over to Newcomb Place. I think we all have to be a bit patient as Tulane continues to modernize its facilities so it can be even more competitive in attracting the best and brightest of students.

OK, Kim has said it is OK to paste in the e-mail with the exception that the name of the local school in point #2 not be revealed at this time.

Here is a list of the current active and planned construction. Growth takes time and work. [Tulane University - Construction at Tulane](http://tulane.edu/construction/index.cfm)

Thanks for the update, fallenchemist. I know that as the Club Baseball president this is a very pressing issue for me. I hope they get something worked out soon.
