As a part of the engineering curriculum at Michigan, I see that there is a 4 semester humanities and social sciences requirement. What types of classes fills this requirement?

I’m gonna take a wild guess here. Maybe Humanities and Social Science classes?

obviously…im talking bout like do i have to take straight up english comp classes or a foreign language or are there more interesting things that i could take?

Since I’m in Engineering I’m going to assume you and I have the same outlook.

The most interesting humanities classes you’ll probably find are probably some of those Philosophy logic classes.

The most interesting social science classes you’ll probably find are probably Econ.

Jstern, what that requirement means is you must take classes that have a HU or SS designation. Certain HU classes are English, Philosophy, History, and many more. Certain SS classes are PoliSci, Econ, Sociology, Anthropology, and many more. Just flip through the course guide (you can find it online on umich.edu) and search for courses you might like. You can even filter (through an advanced search) for the type of designation you are looking for.

History is social science, not humanities. [Michigan Engineering | Core Requirements](http://www.engin.umich.edu/bulletin/uged/reqs.html)

History is not necessarily one or the other. There is History SS and History HU.
