Humanities at a STEM-oriented university?

Is it wise to apply to a STEM-oriented university, such as MIT, for humanities? For example, I really like the Sloan School of Management at MIT, but I don’t know if my humanities profile will make the cut, especially since a STEM-oriented university is looking for STEM-oriented students…right?

MIT’s humanities and social sciences are outstanding and MIT admits applicants who are planning to pursue humanities and social sciences. MIT =! Caltech.

I agree with @marvin100 .

However, based on people I have seen get admitted to MIT, they seem to want their humanities/business applicants to be pretty well-versed in math/science. This is just circumstanstial evidence, so my observation could very well be an inaccurate way to describe their admissions.

@yikesyikesyikes is right–you certainly won’t have much of a shot at MIT as a humanities person with weak STEM qualifications. MIT can be choosy and is vanishingly unlikely to take an applicant with any real academic weaknesses.

You don’t declare major until the spring of freshman year so since you get admitted to MIT without regard to the major I would think that all admitted students should be very capable of handling intense STEM subjects at MIT.
