i liked calculus a lot when i took it freshman year, but i'll tell you honestly that i never used it again. even in upper-division physical chemistry classes (heavy theory), algebra was enough to pull us through...

In my view calc. is freakin awesome. But this might be a bit biased, since I do have a 120% in my AP Calculus class. lol

I think if you took calc AB and BC, and did well so you only have to take 20C then you're in luck as 20C I hear is pretty easy. If you're like me and only took calc AB and have to take 20B then that sucks b/c 20b is the hardest in the sequence.

eh....the level of difficulty of the class depends mostly on your teacher..i had two diff 20c teachers..and they both werent good

and then while everyone was celebrating not having to take anymore calc, i go on to take 20d,e and f...but i guess thats what i get for having my major, lol

heck no. i scored a 5 on the calc ab ap exam and so i was exempt from taking 20A, and 20B i have to say is easier than 20C and 20D. 20B focuses on integration for the first half of the quarter and then transitions into sequences/series (power, taylor, etc.). 20C (vectors, parametrics, etc.), now, gave me a rough time early on, but through really hard work i was able to finish with the grade i wanted. as for 20D, people generally agree that it's probably the toughest of all the lower-div calc classes, but i think it's more straightforward than 20C.

so do i need to remember everything from algebra for calculus, or is it kinda it's own thing? i definitely forgot everything, and i skipped pre-calc, so would it be worth my while to take a class at community college over the summer? would it be better to take a college algebra class or a pre-calc class there?

...how the hell did you make it through high school physics, chemistry, and the SATs without remembering any algebra???

well i had physics the same year i had algebra, and chemistry the year after. i didn't take the SAT's. now i'm in statistics, and all the algebra i learned is gone and has become confidence intervals and p-values

Okay you people who are LOOKING FORWARD TO HUM.

I was the same way. HOWEVER:

What sucks about Hum is NOT that it's difficult or uninteresting. I enjoyed reading the books and I like writing. So the only thing that sucks is the randomness of the T.A. you get and how they control your entire grade. Case in point, I consider myself a good writer with awards and experiences to prove that. However, my first Hum T.A. basically wanted a formulaic 3rd grade format/diction/thought process for the essays, I refused and got a B. Second T.A. was good (it's like 1 in 50), considered to be a HARDER grader because he likes analysis and non-BS stuff, and I got an A.
So the reason I say take it off campus is it's not worth it to play the lottery of the T.A.s. Why let them have control over your grade when some of them can't even speak English (no joke)? They are a bunch of poorly trained idiots on a weird power trip, and THAT's what actually sucks about Hum.
