Start the discussion. For a premed. Justify your answers. New matriculants welcome to share what they know, but this is more for old-timers/current students

depends on which branch of medicine you're more interested in.
if you're interested in pure basic science research in the medical field, do bio. if you're interested in the social context of medicine such as health policy, do humbio.

personally, i'm going to do humbio because i'd like to learn about the pratical applications of biology as well as the public policy and ethics debates stemming from it.

To learn about the "public policy and ethics debates" I would encourage you to take classes in the Science, Technology, and Society department, including STS 110 "Ethics and Public Policy".

You can't go wrong with either bio or humbio. Personally, I was a bio major (not pre med, but many of my classmates were) and loved it. Great academic advising, and the core was extremely well taught. I think you actually learn the science a little bit more thoroughly in the bio core than in the humbio core, and there is more of an emphasis on techniques and research that precipitated discoveries, not just the results themselves. But the flexibility of humbio makes it an incredible major, and is a huge advantage. Just my thoughts...
