@ishanz:Haha! I hope you meant ‘yo mamma’ jokes and I am using it! As if, I do have a shred of brain still working! Adcoms would love yo momma jokes! :p

@ksarmand: You cut a >800 essay to 323??? AMAZING!!!

@flight: I’d send it to you when I start editing! Right now I am writing first drafts of all my essays! 500 words can be easily done in my essay but it would seem brusque! Anyways I’ll PM you later!

@TayLyn WELCOME TO MY BOAT! It sucks…we’ll have loads of fun! :D

MajorQuest–I’m not offended in the least–we are trying to help you, each in our own way. If my comments helped you take something out that might be misconstrued as offensive, I am glad to have helped. Best of luck to you!

You may use humor in your essay so long as it cannot offend any race, ethnicity, gender, etcetera. Some of the best admissions essay have some humor in them. The rationale behind it is that you want to keep the admissions officer reading your essay engaged and interested; sometimes, after reading hundreds of essays, a funny one stands out.

Skillful humor can always be helpful, but be careful with how you use it.

Also if you are not a naturally witty person then humour is not the best way forward. What you should do in your college essays is write in the style that you are most comfortable with!

PS University of Chicago and Caltech both love humoue but it has to be “their kind” of humour.

Humor is definitely good - especially if it’s intelligent and witty. It shows a school what kind of person you are… And at the end of the day, you want a school to admit you because YOU would be a good match - not because someone you’re pretending to be would be a good match. You only get so much space to show the college who exactly you are. So go for it. Use the humor.

@flight: Too bad you might not be on CC anymore when I might need a credible editor! :p

@Yank: I am applying to UoC BUT I am keeping the common app a little simpler! UoC humor wouldn’t go well with a lot of schools I am applying to! Their supplement essay is literally begging to be humorous and creative! I love UoC more because of their quirky prompts!

@Johnny: Thanks buddy! I did end up using humor in a few supplement essays! Not LOL humor more like smile humor!

@Everyone: Thanks a ton for replying guys! Helped heaps!

I figured you’d be a busy freshman at Georgetown! :p

But if you are on CC then I am definitely sending you my essays for critiques! I am applying EA/ED so I’d have done my essays before November! Hopefully! ;)
