<p>Will it hurt my chances of getting into a good college if I go to a prestigious boarding school as a 10th grader instead of a 9th grader? I go to a bad public high school which has absolutely no advanced placement classes. I guess it's probably because of the budget cuts from the government and underfunding. So what's your thoughts ccers, should I or should not stay? Will it help if I do extremely well in my bad high school?</p>
<p>As long as you did great in your first year at your school you should have no problem. Going in 10th is not a problem from what I have heard. Anyway if you’re valedictorian at your school now then you still may have a chance at going to a nice college but going to a boarding school and taking harder classes should help you. <p>Attending an elite BS-- be careful of what you wish for…</p>
<p>Truth is that many students who were, without immense effort, the top dog academically at their previous school, are humbled in the intense, elite BS environment. While the elite BSs may send more kids to elite univs, the competition to stand out in a class of all high-achievers is fierce.</p>
<p>Don’t go to BS w the expectation it will improve your chances of being admitted into an Ivy. Go there with the expectation to be stretched intellectually and to share an amazing life experience w a network of incredible kids & teachers</p>
<p>If not boarding school, I would be going to a great high school where many students matriculate at elite Ivy’s,
and some people say that in terms of prestigious boarding schools, I have a better
chance at my school now. But, frankly, an Ivy league college is not what I’m looking for at all. Applying to boarding school, I seek academic rigor and a memorable experience. I guess it really depends on what you are looking for and if attending an ivy league school is your top priority.</p>
<p>The thing is the boarding school I am thinking of going to has like 350 students. I don’t know if that’s a lot. I guess it’s not all that competitive since the average sat score is in the 1700s (1730s to be exact). I want to go to that boarding school because I heard the community is really close knit and I want to have a better high school experience. It also offers like 37 ap courses. Would it help me to go to an ivy league if I was a diversity candidate. Also how is the boarding school experience like in general?</p>
