Haha, I have him from 9-10 AM. That would have been weird XD! So much in common… but Alvin’s quizzes are so hard and complex!!!

Yeah, they are! I got a REALLY (but really) bad score on the very first one, but after I started studying and paying more attention, I’ve gotten 7s and a 5 on the last one (ehhh, whatever, they’re hard!). But the thing is, I thought a large chunk of Hutching’s test had nothing to do with what we’re learning in session and/or the chapters!!

In fact, I was doing the Chapter 3 HW due tomorrow and saw that problem 55 (I think) was just like a problem on the test! Even though Hutchings said only Chapters 1 and 2 would be covered…

Ye, the quizzes are no way going to help recover my midterm grade either, so I’m really paranoid… Who do you have as your TA, Lemon?

And yes I agree, the midterm was no way replication of the hwk. Well most professors reassure how doing hwk will help anyways :/!

Alvin too, hahahaha, 8 AM
Alvin’s dominating the thread over here xD

You and Sadbear know each other then? Tbh, the quizzes are insanely difficult and at the end, you don’t really get much concepts out of them. I might just be bitter, but I feel like if the quizzes were less on the ‘tricky problems’ and more possible problems that can be done in less than 20mn, it’d give us more confidence and idea of how to approach future problems.

It took him the whole dis section to just explain one of the quiz problem and most people are purely confused at the end of the section. Overall, I think the quiz problems should be more approachable instead of stressing on tricking us left and right.

Again, my opinion might be skewed since I’m not doing so awesome on those quizzes, but just my opinion lol. Tomorrow is judgment day, you two ready :O!?

I think his campiness and flamboyant jumping around is hilarious/cute xD Hahaha but anyway, I completely agree that sometimes he has a hard time explaining his own quiz questions because they do go in-depth. Or maybe he over-analyzes them because he’s a PhD student. Either way, yeah, I’m going to be so embarassed tomorrow. For the first quiz we took, I swear it took about a week of building up courage to look at it. As soon as I saw that horrendous score, I turned that paper around and stuffed it in my binder. I was so embarassed of looking at it…

Haha, let’s exchange scores when we find out

Yeah, Alvin is def a good/funny TA, but his explanations and quizzes are sometimes way too in-depth to the point where we get little to no concepts out of it. I did ok for my first quiz, but it all went downhill afterward though :(!

Hate when he returns quizzes back lol…

ROFL have you seen your score yet? Thank God Alvin handed them face down, because I didn’t even have the nerve to look at it. It went straight to my binder and I haven’t touched it since. And I don’t plan to, either, hahaha, at least until a few hours.

Well I failed, I’m sure you’ll do fine :(! … Class avg was 52/70, how crazy…

Am I crazy or is that a kinda high average…?? I mean, for the difficulty that I thought the test was. I don’t know, maybe I should look at my score already and compare…survey the damage, LOL

So what happened?

My discussion section scored in the mid 50s (at least that’s what I mostly saw)…any idea what the curve will be?

I thought at first that the curve was only by section, but apparently it’s the whole class together (thank God). I can’t say what the curve will be specifically, but I know my section’s median score (not average) was a low 70%. I’m glad the curve isn’t by section…there are some smart@$$Ses in my section that would’ve definitely messed up the curve.

The curve is up now.
