It is not necessarily that they are not “top candidates”. It is often the case that the coach just doesn’t have enough money for all of the athletes he needs for the time. Very often recruited walk-ons are immediate starters and get money later as scholarships open up.</p>
<p>dadX: We attended a regional info. session for Duke in which the admissions officer said there were no scholarships for track and field. There most definitely are.</p>
