It strikes me a little odd regarding the complexity to find a majors list on some college websites(Harvard), nonetheless I have been looking at a bunch of majors lists, and a lot of prestigious colleges don't have finance majors. Is this true? And the people that are interested in IB simply go with economics or something? I don't have a list of all the schools that don't offer finance, but two that strike me as particularly weird is stanford and columbia... Finance isn't such an obscure major, you would think it would be a more popular major than Jazz studies(columbia). So I guess my question is why is a finance major not a major in a lot of colleges?

The schools you mentioned do not choose to have undergraduate business programs therefore you cannot major in finance as an undergraduate. Economics is part of a liberal arts curriculum. If you are a student of that caliber, I suggest you look into Wharton at UPenn as they offer an undergrad program.

Also, in cases where there is an undergraduate business major, finance may be a subarea within that major, rather than its own major.

Thank you that makes a lot of sense, I din’t know economics fell under liberal arts, what school in the college do you apply too if you are seeking a liberal arts/undecided degree?

I know at Duke you can minor in Finance.

I know a kid who majored in applied math at Harvard and is now a CEO for a company owned by KKR. You don’t need to be a finance major to be a master of the universe.
