I Always Hear About the "Legendary" Trojan Family...

Apparently the alumni network of USC is pretty darn amazing. I always hear that, but the information stops right there. Amazing compared to what? Can someone give me some details? I'm trying to decide whether or not to go, and this is a pretty big factor.
Thanks in advance!

I am on another board where there are many Trojan alumni. Last year one poster had a niece who was a recent SC graduate and still hunting for her first position. He asked if anyone had a position to fit this person’s background. Within one day there were about 24 e-mail addresses of firms where she could send her resume. In two weeks she had her job.

Another story involves the SC football team’s “assistant coach” Ricky. Ricky has been a huge fan, but had suffered from cancer and other major health problems. He began coming to practices and charmed the coaches and team members who all learned about the challenges he faced. Soon he was given a Trojan shirt and hat and helped around the practices with water, etc.
After a period of time Ricky had additional health problems and the family was in trouble economically. An alumnus started a fundraiser for Ricky and his family. It was a huge success. People came in person to a drop off site to bring food, furniture, gift cards for markets, staples and cash. Some alumni who had heard about Ricky drove with their children over a hundred miles to bring needed items. A better job was found for his mother and the rent was paid. Even though Ricky was never a student at SC he “helped” the team so he is part of the Trojan family. I saw a video of people stopping at the drop off site the day of the fundraiser.
I live in Georgia, across the country from SC. However, our alumni club here has about 400 members. We meet for networking and social occasions. We also give three partial scholarships to students from GA who enroll at SC. These are given out at a SCendoff Party in August just before the new enrollees leave for Los Angeles. The club also sponsors an admissions seminar in the fall for students considering SC as a college choice.
All of this is done by unpaid volunteers.
On another thread Ellebud has a story about her daughter’s job search right after SC graduation which is worth reading.
I think there are other alumni or parents on this board who may add other comments about the Trojan family.

ND alumni vs USC alumni

hrmm…?

and what about the michigan mafia and all these other… supposed amazing alumni connections?

Thank you for the post GeorgiaGirl. Would you of any such SC alumni groups in Paris?

Speaking from the “Hollywood” connection: My daughter, a 2008 Film graduation, got a job within 2 weeks of her beginning her job search. Each place she interviewed (3) commented on the USC graduation and she received 2 offers. No, the people who interviewed her weren’t from SC, but they were really impressed that she graduated from SC.

A few weeks ago I was at a Ladies Luncheon where I met a young woman who is an executive at a film company. I mentioned my daughter went to SC and she said, “Me too!”. They are having lunch in the next few weeks. (No, not the let’s do lunch someday routine…the mutual acquaintance, an SC grad, said that the woman was thrilled to meet me and wants to help my daughter.) Oh, and the young woman’s boyfriend? Part of the Wesleyan Mafia…

There are alumni groups in London and Paris. SC has more than 120 alumni organizations.

Here is the website that might help. [Untitled Document](http://alumni.usc.edu/groups) .

Thank you! I will get in touch with them right away!
