I am at risk of getting a B+ in Honors Biology Freshman year?

Hi guys,
I am at risk of getting a B+ in Honors Biology and I am worried whether I will be able to get a 3.9 or 4.0 gpa if I do get a B+ in Honors Biology. I am currently taking all honors courses and have 2 A minuses and 5 As in my other classes. Could you guys please give me your opinions if I am at risk of screwing up my gpa?

Is that “3.9 or 4.0” weighted or unweighted? If unweighted, then it will not be mathematically possible to get a 4.0. If weighted, we’d have to know your weighting system.

You’re a freshman. That ONE B will not ruin your life forever, trust me. I had one B freshman year in World Cultures because I slacked off at the end of the year. I just finished sophomore year and have a 4.1. Colleges tend to be more forgiving freshman year, too. Do some research on the colleges you want to attend because some of them might just want your 10-12 GPA! If that’s the case, work hard next year. I worked hard enough to pull my 10-12 GPA to a 4.3

@bodangles Weighted. Is unweighted or weighted more important to colleges? (just curious) And can you explain to me why an unweighted is not possible? I got A minuses in biology for the other three marking periods though.
@kfaustria Thank you for your reply, it made me feel a bit better  I’m mainly targetting NYU stern, so I will do some research on that.

Since colleges will consider your GPA in the context of your school, whatever you have available is fine.
(For chancing purposes, UW is easier to look at because you can know exactly what type of grades it represents.)

An unweighted 4.0 means you have all A’s. Nothing less. If you get something less than an A, you may get as close as a 3.9, but you will never have a perfect UW GPA, because you did not get all A’s (perfect 4.0).

I also think I will have a B in my honors english class!! I’m sooo scared especially because I don’t want to eliminate my chances of going into Ivy schools just by my freshman year )))):

@ bodangles So even if I get an A-, a 4.0 unweighted is not possible?

That depends on your school. At my school, a A- is still counted as a 4- but that varies school to school. Do you have a student handbook handy? I bet it would be listed in there.

@wonderfulreads Thanks for your reply. I’ll get back to you once I find it in my student handbook. What I am primariliy worried about is that if I end up with maybe a 3.8 unweighted, will it ruin my chances for NYU?
