So Tom Wolfe wrote a book about college life at fictional Ivy Dupont U. The book has received a flurry of mostly negative reviews. The LA Times asked freshmen females from a bunch of colleges, including Dartmouth, to compare the sex scenes on their campuses with Wolfe's depiction in the book. http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/opinion/la-op-wolfe2jan02,1,324576.story or page M6 of the Sunday LA Times.

I think the school depicted is really more Duke, and the research was primarily done at UMich.

Yes, it was based on a mix of schools, but I think mainly Duke. So you're right, Dupont is a prestigious U, not an Ivy. I also read that he did a lot of research at the University of Florida.

Stanford thinks the flattering parts of the book are about them, according to a story in the Daily Stanford.

White has been going around the country visiting college towns on his book tour, and at each stop hinting that if they buy the book they may see themseves reflected here and there.

A quote from the story referring to Wellesley:

"Every Friday or Saturday night, clusters of first-years board a bus nicknamed the "Cuddle Shuttle" in their most promising outfits, ready to take on the boys of Boston."

That is the first time I evey heard that famous bus to Harvard and MIT referred to as the "Cuddle Shuttle'" ! Some nervous editor must have done a little re-writing for the family newspaper!

If the real name were used here, the Moderators would delete it immediately!

Grow up, NYCFan. Leave that crude gutter joke to 18-year-old sophomores.

My roommate and I just finished reading that book... I liked it well enough, but found it highly unrealistic.
