I’m a sophomore at an IB school. Not planning on taking the diploma but planning to take a bunch of ib courses I am interested in. My weighted is around a 3.8 I think. The program is in Isreal from late January to late May
To go there next semester I will drop:
Spanish 4 (high school level)
PLTW/AP Principles in Computer Science (Well, my teacher would send me assignments to help me self study for the PLTW exam when I get back in June. Getting a good grade on the exam gets me college credit.)
Over there I’d take
Pre - IB Chem
Pre - IB Algebra 2
Pre - IB Global
Ap human geography
Pre - IB English
3 credits of Hebrew language
3 credits of phys ed.
Will this hurt my chances or get me some edge due to the program?
Some schools will see it as a plus. Others may not know what to do with the grades from your semester abroad depending on what your home school does with them. (I know one student who was given the option of having her foreign grades put on her transcript as Cs or submitting a grade report in a foreign language to fill in for the blank period on her home transcript. ) If it troubles them to the point that they don’t accept you, they probably aren’t a good fit.
If it’s what you want to do, it’s the right thing to do and a school that values that (just as you do) will value the experience. Seriously, would you want to go to a school that thought it was better to pass up this opportunity?
By far, the best education I have recieved throughout my life is due to travelling. Never pass up the opportunity. You will go to a good college, don’t worry. If you miss this chance for an unknown college you might be missing out on, you might always regret it. I love @gardenstategal 's last sentence, that is so true.
