And half asian.
Does this make me able to put "African American" on college apps?

No, you won’t be able to put “black” (I’m pretty sure it says black) because Egyptian is North African and is therefore considered to be Caucasian/white.

Even in the “equal” world we live in today, the box you check for race comes down to skin color, if its black your black, if its white your white, and brown probably means asian or hispanic. For example a white south african cannot put African or black for race, he is still white despite coming from south africa.

The census definition of African American (and you are welcome to look this up) refers to Americans of black African ancestry. This seems to be the definition that colleges are using, too.

Common app says White (including Middle Eastern), or something like that. So, white

Could you ever lie about race?

Of course people can lie [including about their race]. If that’s how you want to conduct yourself as a person, feel free to do so as many have done before you.

Be aware that the consequences of having a dishonest reputation will never be attractive in any positive sense. That negative sense would be no different at a college dealing with a person’s dishonesty.

I actually dare you. It’ll be funny for those around you to see how that turns out.

If you are admitted as an African American, I wonder how many cultural event meetings you can turn down before somebody catches on… my money’s on the first day of admissions.
