What exactly should I do? This fall semester I am taking a few basic classes plus biology. I hear that I shouldn't take too many pre med classes at ccc. What other classes should I take then. I am just really confused and don't understand how to get started here.

btw I am in ccc because I didn't care at all in highschool and I didn't decide I wanted to do pre-med till after I graduated. Please don't ask about my SATs. Is it at all possible to go to med school or am I royally screwed?

i know an er doc who started out in cc and went to a really good med school so being at a cc won't hurt you unless you do poorly.
people are right to advise you not to all your premed reqs at a cc esp. if you are a non-science major. take your major reqs or just finish all your electives. essentially use the time at the cc to development your interests and work habits so that when you transfer you will be prepared to handle the premed workload.

if i were and this is what i would not what you should you have to do what's right for you. i would take an array of classes just find my interests explore some organizations i want to be involved with and develop my study and work habits.

that's my advice. and remember above all else don't look at college as the end all path to med school otherwise you will not enjoy it as much and miss out on some really great stuff. work hard and you will get to be a doctor even if it takes longer than people on here are comfortable with.

yeah you definitely should. because you want to take the mcat then i would email a couple med schools, they don't have to ones you are applying to, and ask their opinion about what to do for courses in that case. med school admissions people are extremely helpful and nice even to people who won't be applying for couple years.

Read the thread on MCATs at the top of the Pre-Med Topics list. You need to take a year of general chemistry, a year of organic chemistry, a year of physics, and a year of biology. Some also advise anatomy, physiology, and genetics.

You will also need to take a year of English and math through calculus to apply to medical school, so those are classes you could get started on immediately at cc. Try introductory biology too or introduction to chemistry.
