I am really nervous..should I choosee...

Hey All,

So I am kind of freaking out right now. I got accepted to a number of schools I really wanted to go to and I have a feeling I will be accepted to a few more. But, I am nervous as to the cost and how much debt I will procure during my studies. I want to have three majors, so I am not sure how that will affect my cost. A few questions:

Does anyone know how much debt a student who attends George Washington University usually has when they graduate?

Should I choose the cheaper school and skip-out on a more in-depth study of my desired major and possibly good internships?

Should I choose a state school like Penn State over George Washington for political sci and economics?

If I wanted to do three majors (and had the opportunity), how would that affect my tuition?

Thanks all!

You have been accepted to many schools, Good for you, you have obviously done a good job in high school, Congratulations.

There are a couple of things that we would need to determine.
Are your parents going to help with Tuition?
What is Your EFC?
do you live in pennsylvania?
What are the schools that you have been accepted to?
Is GW your first choice?
Last choice?
What can you realistically afford?
Did you get any Financial Aid packages yet?
What will your major or majors be?
Will you be going to graduate school after Undergrad?

Congratulations on your acceptances. I wish that were the end of the process, but, yes, like most of us, you now have to weigh the final costs of each of your options and have that consideration in your decision.

You can look up average debt for a GW student in the financial aid section of the USNWR blurb on the college. But bear in mind that the information on average loans does not include private or PLUS loans, so a lot of the amounts are severely under reported.

The answer really does not matter anyways, since all that matters is what GW’s package is for you and how much in loans you will have to take to get your degree from there.

As to being allowed to triple major and how many credits are permitted to be taken, you will have to talk to the academic deans of the relevant school. The problem often with double majors, and even more so with triple ones is scheduling the classes. You may see a lot of overlap in the scheduling making it de facto impossible to take a certain slate of courses during a semester when in theory you can. It might be wiser to stick with a single or double major and just make sure you take certain key courses in the other disciplines that interest you and though make some effort to get the other majors, don’t get too upset if it doesn’t work that way. Good luck.
