I am researching, afraid it is for no reason

Hello,

I am currently researching a medically-related topic at my undergraduate institution as a sophomore. I plan on continuing this as long as a I can up until I graduate from this university and matriculate (hopefully) to a medical school.
The one problem is that I am receiving credit for this research every semester and it seems the standard in the department for them to do this. And its free credit, so I can't just turn it down. Will medical schools frown upon this and disregard my entire research experience because it was done for "credit". This analysis seems a bit superficial in that I still had the research experience like anyone else and from the amount of work I put into it, it sure isn't worth the measly amount of credits they give me for it.

Any input would be appreciated, thanks.

I don’t think med school admission will disregard your research just because you have credit for it. Getting credit in lieu of getting paid is pretty standard for undergrads (and grad students too). I think it doesn’t it matter if you get money for your work or course credits. D1 always got paid; D2 has had it happen both ways–sometime paid; sometime credit.

BTW, I think you’re really overthinking this…

And you should be doing research because you’re interested in the subject, not because its a ticket you gotta get punched on your way to someplace else.
