I heard from some people that it is relatively easier to get into Rice RD than ED…?
what is this, is this true? Should I change my plan of applying there RD instead or ED?
My whole life has been a lie?!?!?

If this is confusing you, you might want to reconsider applying to Rice.
^ That’s very helpful. Don’t be a jerk.
If you think Rice is a reach school for you, best to apply ED.
Also, if you are a Texan, ED might be the way to go < this is my own personal observation
Well its my first choice, but reach school as well.
And no im not a texan. Im from cali, but im considered international student.
My original plan was to apply ED cuz i really want to attemd this school
bodangles, look at the emoticon but you spout your ignorance. It was meant in jest you fool.
Oh please. You didn’t put either of the two I would associate with joking or goodwill – or . If you’re relying on a WINKING FACE (often used to show slyness or biting sarcasm, in my experience) to convey that you are not, in fact, personally attacking someone…maybe you should revisit your style of answering questions. Which you didn’t, by the way – answer the question OR add anything useful to the discussion.

I am so not bitterly sarcastic
I still havent got a clear answer yet…
I think you need to talk with your college counselor or perhaps reach out to an admissions person from Rice, rather than jump to conclusions from random college confidential comments (I saw the comment in another thread about a student or parent speculating that it might be harder to get in ED, and another comment within the same thread about the chances being better in ED). Statistically speaking, the acceptance rate is higher ED. But I think a lot of it depends on the strength of the ED applicant pool. At some schools, the ED applicant pool is incredibly strong, stronger than the RD pool (mostly schools like HYPSM). At other schools, there might be a lot of candidates who are not as strong and are hoping that applying ED will give them a hook or bump. I can’t speak for the reality of Rice, only admissions can do that. If Rice is truly your first choice and you have stats that are in line with Rice’s applicant pool, go ahead and apply ED (keeping in mind that for ED, your record through the end of junior year and early senior year is what the admissions committee sees). I don’t think you would have a better chance during RD unless you do something in the fall of senior year (grades, achievements, scores) that would substantially change your application for the RD round.
Can you afford a binding decision?
I have no special knowledge but this chart would seem to say that the admit rate for ED is 20% and admit rate for RD is 15% but note that at most schools, the ED pool will include people with hooks like legacies, recruited athletes so I don’t know enough to say what the stats are like for non-hooked applicants. https://futureowls.rice.edu/futureowls/Freshman_Profile.asp
Rice has restrictive ED. If you are admitted ED, you will be required to withdraw any application made to another school. Rice takes this very seriously. @uesmomof2 posted admit rates above. Less than 50% are from Texas.
We were at owl days and did an info session at Rice. They said there that this year ED acceptance rate was 20% and regular acceptance rate was 14%. Came out and flat said that you would have better chances getting in applying early decision.
@robotrainbow I wanna go with you and just apply ED since that has been my plan since last year anyway
