Alright i messed up my first 2 years of highschool..i had a total of 5 c's in the same classes math and french..and the rest were A's and B's, i had one honors in freshman year which was history, and two sophomore year french and history. I go to a competitive high school that is considered "accelerated" and im taking AP English next year and HR French 4. Im involved in writing for the school's newspaper, young democrats club, varsity volleyball, and i volunteer/ have a regular babysitting job. I know im smart but i slacked a little. I am SO worried about colleges..i want to know my chances at any university if I apply myself junior year and do really well (i want all A's)

don’t worry man, I had a 2.7 GPA after sophomore year but I got my act together junior and senior year and ended up gaining admissions to some “top 50-70 schools”

just work as hard as you can over the next year and a half and you will see the results

What’s your current GPA?

my current unweighted is around 3.0-3.2

I’m almost in the same boat - mine is about a 3.4-3.5 and I’m not completely sure where I stand in comparison to other applicants of the top colleges.

Relax. College “prestige” is just that. Its all perception. You can get a really fine education, learn to grow up, and meet fabulous people at schools below the top 25. Yes, you need to mature and fix your grades. There are 2,000 schools in the United States and you will be admitted to several of them. They are waiting to hear from you.

Being hyper isnt going to help your cause. It only makes you appear…well…hyper. And colleges want to know if you will succeed when you get there, not have a nervous breakdown and flunk out. Or obsess about CC all day long for that matter.

Focus on researching colleges this summer. Get Barrons or Petersens directory and read up on them. Go online and dig deeper into programs and admission standards. And pick schools where you will be happy and thrive and be succeed. Not just the most prestigious names.

Good luck.

I had way more than 5 C/C+'s and I still got into 9/10 schools I applied to and most of the schools gave me merit money. I wasn’t accepted to top-tier schools but several respectable institutions.

Which schools, sictransitgloria?

oddone21, don’t sweat it man. Just try and stay impartial towards every college you apply to. You don’t owe any college any loyalty no matter what. Give it your best, but deep down, stay as impersonal as the college admissions people that will be going through your file. You’ll see some admissions people try to harass you into going to their school, and you’ll get some disappointing rejections. Just keep your cards close to your chest, keep your options open and just compare all of your options and pick the best one, come April. Good luck! Don’t forget you’ll always be able to count on the posters of this forum for advice…or just to sound off on if you’re in need of confirmation.

Geneseo, Binghamton, GWU, American, Fordham, Providence, Loyola…umm I can’t even remember where else. If its only in one subject or in hard classes you should be fine. I consistently did very poorly in math and physics and I did not do well in AP French or Macro. I still had a long list of schools to pick from in April.

I think the best way to deal with the stress in the college admissions process is to focus in on your studies. You have time to achieve a higher GPA you strive for. If you start freaking now then it will hurt you in the long run. You have seen you aren’t happy with your current performance, so now you can do better in your last two years. Also by preparing well in you college search will likely help as you have more info to go off of. You’ll know what each school generally looks for and then you cna use that as a benchmark for your efforts. Then you know where you lie at all times.
