I am so scared.

Oh, God! I was researching Barnard and they require Subject Tests along with SATs. I haven’t taken them and I don’t think I have time. Or I do have time but I’d have to wait until January 1st to apply, which could hurt my chances.
Can I apply ED without the Subject Tests or do I need to wait until January and take some anyway?

I would not apply anywhere ED with your situation. You need to be able to compare packages. You and your parents don’t know enough about how all of this works and what’s out there, and you don’t have someone who does know in the picture.

Look at a number of schools, take your time so you can put your best foot and application forward. I suggest looking at Washington and Lee for a good LAC, and maybe Albright College in PA. Good possibility of full aid. For NYC, yes, Columbia and Barnard are the only two that guarantee to meet need. But you don’t have the SAT2s and to rush taking them is madness. You need to study for them. Take some sample tests, there are some books in the library with those tests and see where you are in them. Ask your counselor about HEOP possibliitles for Fordham and other NYC schools.

We have friends, several of them who are having a very rough time financially with kids at NYU. It is very expensive. Do talk to your counselors and mentors and see if they have insights where your chances are good for admissions and the money possibilities are good too.

I’m very disappointed in myself. I haven’t done enough research at all. This has all been so stressful and I should’ve known with little to no help, I should’ve been more thorough. I feel like an idiot because I’ve wasted so much time. I’m so scared my ranking could drop significantly by regular decision time (as I’m nine spots away from being knocked out of the top ten percent). I guess I’ll have to wait until regular decision. I don’t want to have an incomplete application.
Thank you all for your help anyway.)

If you’re planning on English major, I would consider cheaper schools so you could pay back tuition faster.

@ AuntBea: Buffalo, Plattsburgh… have specific scholarships. Old Westbury also does, etc, etc yet very few are full rides. These aren’t available at all SUNY’s. In addition, I don’t think OP qualifies (based on her stats).

@Kollabo: “cheaper” is relative. OP needs to look at NET PRICE, not sticker price. A $55,000 school that meets full need without loans for an EFC 0 will be cheaper than an in-state public without need met.
Just a note: not sure you realize your screen name means “nazi sympathizer” in several European languages. If it’s intentional, not sure it’s a good idea anyway.
