Hello, I am a senior that attends a high school in the state of Tennessee (where education is not valued much) and I was curious at to what my chances of being accepted into Temple University are. My father is from Camden, New Jersey and when he introduced me to Temple I simply fell in love! In Tennessee we practice and take the ACT instead of the SAT, but I took the SAT anyway upon my own accord. My ACT score is a 23 and my SAT is a 1080 and I received a perfect score on my essay. Though, I sent my scores through College Board I applied through Temple’s The Temple Option. I feel I answered my essay questions well and typed up a wonderful essay. My overall GPA is a 3.1 (weighted 4.0 scale) and though I struggled immensely in math my freshman and sophomore year, I managed to earn straight A’s my junior year and am planing to do so this year, my senior year. Three or four recommendation letters were sent to Temple on my behalf and I sent somewhat of a cover letter to Temple’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions telling more about my academic and athletic career while in high school and some of my hobbies. This is going on about the fifth week since I applied and my application was deemed complete. Does the long wait mean I am more likely to get rejected or accepted? I am just worried because I was bullied terribly throughout high school that it caused my depression to worsen as well as my anxiety, and attending Temple University is my absolute dream and I feel that I will truly be comfortable, happy, and accepted there. I also feel that Temple is an environment that I can thrive in, so I would very much like to know…what are my chances of getting accepted into Temple University?
The upward trend in your grades helps. So you didn’t send your scores? 3 or 4 recs may be overkill, but I don’t think it’s too much of a problem. People do get accepted to this school with your grades and scores. Don’t stress out too much. Also, if you don’t get accepted please know that you can feel comfortable, happy, and accepted at many other schools! Being rejected or accepted to a “dream” school does not define your worth, and I am sure you are a wonderful person! The things you achieve in college will be because of you and your work ethic, not the school you go to. Please know that you can be successful and happy wherever you go, and I hope you have other schools on your list that you love just in case. But seriously, don’t stress out and GOOD LUCK!!!
PS. I checked their website and it says that “Students who apply Rolling Admissions can expect to receive a decision from us 4 to 8 weeks after their application is ‘complete’ in our system.” You applied 5 weeks ago–you’re still good! No need to worry.
Hey! I applied Temple Option too. I wouldn’t stress over your GPA because you do have that upwards trend, which is super good. In my case, my GPA began decreasing when in my junior year because I was taking 5 IB classes and that overkill. Based on your information, I think you have a good chance of getting in. You’re working hard and involved, which I think Temple will value. Don’t stress! I’m also waiting to hear back from them, so good luck to the both os us!
Plus, I have ran cross country and track and field for all four years of high school, played basketball my sophomore year, ran AAU track nd field and even qualified for the Junior Olympics. I have had a job as a Youth Program Assistant, and I love to volunteer. I have volunteered with disadvantaged children, disabled children, for people with Lupus, as a coach for girls community basketball, at concessions for my school, etc. It is so hard because I come from a low income household and a state that does not care much for education. I always have a constant fear of rejection in any situation because I am Puerto Rican and black and I feel like people will judge me because of it, but I have been hoping and praying for acceptance so I hope God will answer my prayers. Thank you, good luck as well!
I know a few cases of students with a strong upward trend in GPA where the school waited for final first semester grades from high school. I sort of suspect this was to see whether the upward trend continues. I have no idea whether Temple does this also, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it takes a bit longer for you to hear back. Do the best that you can to relax, keep ahead in your classes, and know that things will work out one way or another.
I think you have a really good chance—I’m rooting for you
Thank you!
Thank you so much everyone!
You have a much better profile than the one person I’ve known who went to Temple. I think you’re in.
I think you’ll be fine, I got accepted today for Biochem. I live in state and an hour outside of Philly, and Temple was my #1 as well. I don’t think you need to stress as much as you are. Depending on what major you chose the competition might be fierce. My gpa was on the low side 3.31 weighted, while my SAT was just a little above average students at Temple with a 1240. Since you’re out of state I believe you have a harder chance of getting in but I believe your upward grade trend and Temple option essays will help out your case immensely. I feel like if you state how much you like temple and what they’re about, you’ll be fine.
