I am taking AP bio this year( junior year).What level of college biology should I take next year

If I will have a pre-med major?
Thank you.

Where are you taking it?

It depends on the policy of your future college. Some will grant you credit for 1 or 2 semesters of biology (assuming you score a 4 or 5 on the AP exam); some won’t.

For example, at D2’s college if you were a science major or pre-med, you needed a AP Bio score of 5 just to enroll in the honors section of freshman intro Bio 101 . At D1’s college, a AP bio score of 3 or better allowed you to skip Bio 101 and move onto Bio 102.

OP is saying they are a junior. So OP will still be in high school next year?

@texapg University of Michigan
Sorry, I forgot to mention it.

@WayOutWestMom sorry… What is a d1 or d2 college :frowning:

@texaspg Yes, I am planning take it by Community Resources program.

In this context, it’s not referring to schools

D1 = Oldest daughter
D2 = 2nd daughter

Have you taken chemistry and physics yet? If not you could take them senior year.

@someonescarlett If you are still in high school and finishing AP biology before your senior year, whatever else you take may or may not receive college credit. You should look into Michigan’s credit policies and take something that will provide you credit.

There are many rules for where you can get credit for taking the premed required classes for Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Math, English, Psychology etc. If the college you attend does not show the required classes on your college transcript to meet the required number of credits, you may need to retake them.

I would advise you take Biology 1 and 2, or if it looks like you’d get an A in the final for Biology 1, only Biology 2, then, regardless of what the AP policy is. Many students in Bio1 will have taken the AP class but will either be “repeating” it to frontload their GPA, or will be taking it to make sure their grasp on the subject matter is as strong as possible.

@mommdc I am taking AP Chem, but haven’t take physics yet. I am wandering if it will be too much.

Yes. Thank you! @MYOS1634

Take an intro course. There is a lot of content in college bio that isn’t covered in AP bio. If you do well in AP Bio, college Bio should be a B+ or and A.

@texaspg okay, I will take look. Thank you do much! :slight_smile:

@CaliCash Hi. Does it have a ton of homework compare to AP Bio? How many hour it appropriately takes pre week? I heard the test won’t always based on the text book. Because I am thinking take both AP physics and this class.
Thank you.

If you haven’t taken physics yet you should definitely take it as a senior, it doesn’t have to be AP.

@mommdc how much will it hurt if I don’t take? Because Everybody is going to take it…

It depends on the school. Some Bio course are large lectures that have only exams. Some are small courses that reflect the structure of a high school course with more assignments.
