I bombed my ENTIRE freshman year! (but I have a legit excuse)

Okay, so first of all let me tell you what my freshman year transcripts look like. I got an A in my Algebra 2 (with trig) and Honors Chemistry class. And in every other class it's either a B, C, and even a D.
Now, here's why this happened. I'm from a different country and I moved to the US about sixty days before the school year was going to end. I've always gotten nothing besides an A or A+ in my old school. But things were different when I came to the US. The entire educational system in general was completed new to me and so were the topics taught. I didn't have a clue on what's going on, and to make things worse, I had the hardest freshman schedule at my school. Two honors math classes (geometry and algebra 2); and also two honors science classes (Chemistry and biology). And besides that I had honors English, and World History. I didn't have the remotest clue about my history and English class because I'm from abroad but I did everything I could. I got B's and C's in this classes. And to make a long story short I ended up with a D in PE.
And along with this the fact that all of a second I was in high school in a completely alien county intimidated the hell out if me. And since the school year was ending, we were taking tons of tests and the final exam.
Now, allow me to remind you that I tried extremely hard and the fact that I had just moved to the country is the sole reason for such awful performance.
Now, I self studied a ton during summer vacation and began to get used to things here. So now I'm on my third week of my Sophomore year and I'm doing great. I'm on my way to getting back my straight A transcript. And also, my school didn't accept my old school's transcripts for my freshman year (in which I got all A's) because of something like the fact that it's a foreign school and the grading format is different, etc. So Q1-Q3 of my freshman transcripts are empty. Only the last part of Q4 is filled with my horrible grades. So basically, on my now official transcripts, those unjustified bad grades are the only thing put I for my freshman year. I BOMBED MY WHOLE FRESHMAN YEAR and got a GPA of 3.64. But it wasn't my fault.
Anyway, like I said earlier, I'm a Sophomore now and I'm doing great. So...what now? Is my unfortunate situation going to ruin my life? I got my next three years of school to excel but ninth grade is just.... screwed.
Could someone PLEASE explain how bad my situation is? Should I worry? Is there anything I can do? Thanks in advance!

lol can you please explain? i’m really curious

and whoa condense, condense! i think you would get more responses if you made this a little shorter or something

but given your situation, i think you’re fine as long as you build your gpa. 3.64 isn’t that bad, and it’s not so low that you can’t improve. on your college apps, you can explain your freshman year

Should be fine if you or your guidance counselor can explain this to colleges, and a 3.6 GPA isn’t the end of the world.

Oh, I remember I was once like you. During my freshman year I got a 3.7-3.8 GPA and didn’t have enough extracurricular activities. I literally thought I was going to die, but now I’m aware that freshman year isn’t you’re only year. College admissions look at your entire four, and examine you as an individual. Your GPA isn’t too bad and earning straight As for the rest of your school year plus strong extra curricular will bring you back up. Just breath!

I think you’re fine. A 3.67 isn’t that bad. If you do fine the rest of your school career, you wil have a healthy chance at most colleges. Despite what CC may tell you, a non-stellar GPA isn’t the end of the world.
And, if you really want to get into an elite college, I don’t think Stanford looks at freshman grades haha :)

People are like -
~ “A 3.64 doesn’t TOTALLY suck.”
~ “A 3.64 isn’t AWFUL necessarily.”

…A 3.64 is good. Like really good. Anything above a 3.5 is excellent. A 3.64 at my school puts you in the top 10% of the class…

…unless your GPA scale is out of 6 or something, I don’t see why you’re devastated over a 3.6. Freshman year, I had a 3.5 because I was in basic classes for Art and Latin (which is on a 3.0 scale) and I managed to pull it up.

Just relax.

It’s not really about my GPA. It’s about the B C and D I got due to the unfortunate circumstances.

Interesting choice of words considering the date.

Hon, I wouldn’t be too concerned. Sure, C’s and D’s aren’t good (particularly if you were graded on a ten-point scale), but it’s your freshman year, and there’s always time.

Colleges don’t only look at overall GPA, they look at trends. If they see that you had a rough year but improved, it will reflect positively on you. Besides, most applications have room for you to explain any circumstances like your own. Your life is not ruined.

By the way, if you’re being graded on a 4-point scale, that GPA is very good. Even on a 5-point scale, it’s not horrible.

^^That comment was plane ignorant.

plane ignorant

HAHAHAHA ^

no, this is bad

Could we get back on topic?

One moment - could somebody explain to me how my comment was ‘plane’ ignorant? I apologize if I’m giving out incorrect information, but everything I said comes straight from my counselors and college admissions officers.

I ended my freshman year with a 2.5 GPA. There’s always hope.

Oh my god, were you always last pick in PE too?

@naegami, it wasn’t about your comment
