I was rejected from MIT when applying during my high school senior year. I got accepted into CalTech. I am doing good right now. Will I make it?
Congrats on Caltech. I believe my son will also be attending Caltech if he decides in time. :!!
I’ve talked privately with a number of parents of Techers here on CC. A couple of them have kids who are now at MIT for grad school. It is not an unreasonable path, but predicting 4 years in the future for an individual is pretty much impossible. Try a Magic 8 ball. For grad school, you will be looking for professors who do interesting work in a sub-field you want to pursue, so that may or may not end up including MIT.
Also, if you are heading to Caltech, you’ll want to start lowercasing that “t” real quick.
Congratulations on CalTech! Do you have a chance to get into MIT for grad school. Yes, everyone does. Can anyone tell you now if you will get in, No.
Applying for undergraduate at MIT while a high school senior will depend upon high school grades and SATs and “other stuff” (recommendations, URM or not, etc…). Applying for graduate school after finishing university will depend upon university grades, GRE scores, and similar “other stuff”.
When you apply for graduate school your high school grades and high school SATs will not be asked for, will not be considered, and will not matter at all. However, if you want to have any chance to get into graduate school at MIT, you need to do VERY well as an undergrad at Caltech. Study hard, keep ahead of your classes, and good luck to you.
MIT and Caltech have close relationships. Such as, this MIT prof studied under this Caltech prof, and vice Versa.
There are pros and cons to both schools for UG. Too many to list here. At Caltech, you can get involved in research, and do a SURF during the summer. Over 4 years, you will have a chance to work closely with many different profs and labs. When You apply to grad school (if u do), you will have 3 people to ask for LORs . You will take the GREs (& do well), and write your essays. Depending on your field, MIT or other grad programs, based on the profs u wish to work with, will be appealing.
I feel sad just reading your user name.
