I-Day Questions

not before 7 and no later than 1030.

you really outta find that packet, it's kinda got alot of important info in it! ;)

You may be able to have a phone pretty soon out of basic, or you may have to wait till parents weekend...depends entirely on the squadron.

If the basics bring a cell phone, will they be able to take it with them for the Doolie Day Out? Is that the only time they can make calls during the summer?

No, usually they have to use their Doolie Day Out sponsor family's phone.

If they get to take their phone over there...well, let's just say they have very nice cadre. ;)

...so no need to even bring the phone...

well, it's up to you. If a basic's parents are going to send him/her a Acceptance Day package, then they wouldn't really need to take one.

On the other hand, you might get your backpack back--and thus your phone--while you are moving from your basic room to your academic year squadron room...for a short period of time. That's what happened to my roommate.

Does anyone have any advice on how to transport the razor blades if they are in my carry-on bag? I've thought of checking in my carry-on or just buying some new ones at the airport after I land. Also, I was wondering how cadets voted.

arhead70 - Sorry you are going to hear this from a mom but I recently went on a trip to see my parents with only a carry on and a brand new, unopened razor in that pack. Went through security and no one said a word! Does that help?

I think the new policy for any blade is under four inches? Last time I went flying I saw the security pull out some pretty large scissors out of someone's carry on and they let them slide after measuring them.

yeah, i'm a girl, but my friends, sister and i have taken razors through so many times...

so about the cell phone thing...i know i will be able to have one either by acceptance or by parent's weekend, but when am i allowed to use it? and, is it necessary or even worth having one at all? thanks :)

Yes necessary. You will be able to use it on the weekends depending on your squadron after Parents weekend. The all the time as things approach Thanks giving.

Is it possible for me to find out what cadet group or squadron I'm in?

Probably not, there are upperclassmen that will have access to the list, but chances are you will not know until I-Day. We learned what squadron Potter would be in because an upperclassmen we knew was able to share it with us, but that is the exception.

BJ10Mom, yep. Thanks

Yeah...don't count on someone doing that for you. I don't know anyone else who knew where they were going before I-day. That's when you're supposed to find out.

It didn't help knowing. We still never found her in a webguy picture. The camera never panned down that low I guess. We knew what color lanyard to look for but no matter how hard we tried, she tried harder to hide from the camera,

My wife was able to call someone when she was there and find out what squadron my son was in. I will have to ask who it was. She used the information to try and locate him from the chapel wall the day after when they all line up by squad. Of course, as it turns out, he wasn't even out there because he was so late to inprocessing. Of course, we would have never found him anyway. Just another cadet in a gold hat.

Hmmm. So they don't find out squadrons until after they begin in processing and since there is no contact after that, parents won't know where to even begin looking for them. I am really not liking this place...Just kidding, of course!?

Not exactly. Once they begin in processing parents can go and see what squadron their basic is in, and they will give your family a pin that looks like the patch for your academic year squadron. I think my mom still has hers. And she told me that she wants me to find her a "wolverines" one for next year.
