Do we really get an hour for "hygiene" after PT? Because during ss it was more of "Okay, go take a shower, get dressed, and be back here in 10 minutes."

well, the hour often includes a number of clothing changes "supermans" some front leaning rest while waiting and what ever else the cadre feel like.

I also remember thinking "that looks kind of fun" and while first beast was definitely not very fun, I almost enjoyed a lot of second beast

i hated jacks. Mostly because i had really bad case of jack's hack hehe.

the schedule listed is a general idea so that the parents had some general idea of what their kids were doing. it's not something to be studied for an hour by hour idea of what you're going to do

yes i love when it says "Afternoon Activities"

lol

goodtimes

I too got Jack's hack, and actually spent an afternoon on bed rest because I almost passed out in the morning

Could someone define "Jack's Hack"?

There's so much dust and dirt in the air that everyone has respiratory problems. Having your head in the dirt all day only makes things worse. By the time BCT is over and you return to the hill, everyone has a hacking cough.

See also: Jack's Hack - USAFA Folklore

it's annoying. you come back here and go to a briefing, and you can't hear anything because everyone's hacking and coughing. it's really obnoxious.

i didn't have it while we were in jack's, but i got a little bit when we got back.

These video clips might be helpful if you haven't seen them.

yes and then group staff gets mad because you won't stop coughing and you get to hold your canteen up in front of you for 45 minutes

yep i remember that. they got pretty upset with us.. haha

"Looking at this (even though I have no first hand experience) BCT looks like it could be fun if you are in really good shape, and you get passed the yelling and tiredness."
You can say that if you can look the guy on the bus in the face and laugh (which I actually almost did, until he got two inches from my face and yelled at me).
At the minimum, you'll get bored during your down time. At most, it might be the hardest five and a half weeks of your life. Even the guys who were in good shape got worn down, because BCT here isn't overly physically demanding (show up in shape, and you'll be good), but it's mostly mental. Doing pushups is one thing- doing them while your cadre is yelling at you is another. Doing pushups with a lot of cadre yelling at you is yet another thing. A lot of people who come here have never had that sort of experiance.
But we've all managed to have some sort of fun during basic. You get to know your flight cadre well, since you'll most likely be in that same squadron as them (a few rare exceptions exist, though). We could probably all tell you stories about how we joked with our cadre (we did a cadre wakeup call on ours the morning of Field Day, and then got into the front leaning rest saying "Sir, we are waiting on our cadre" until one came out and beat us, for instance).
But you're right, this would probably be a summer camp for young adults, if it weren't for the cadre.

I'm psyched! Is it June yet? Bring it on!

seriously! lol

on a serious note, enjoy your time now. you'll be eager to start here, and that's completely natural. but don't get caught up in wishing you were here. it's hard, but make an honest effort to enjoy time at home with family and friends.

seems corny, but you're coming to the end of a chapter in your life...you'll (hopefully!) never live with your parents again, never be a high school kid again (although being a cadet is quite close!), and all your relationships with people will be different. neither better nor worse, just different.

it's been said many times before-don't give up good times at home cuz you're anxious to get here.

that being said, there's no reason not to be excited to come here-just don't wile away your days wishing time would go faster. live life to its fullest!

i love it here, and so, apparently, does eagle (since he yelled it at the top of his lungs today...), and i know hornet's said he does too. people make fun of me for saying that as a 4 deg, but you know what? usafa is awesome. so i guess what i'm saying is, have a healthy balance between excitement for coming here and making the most out of your senior year in high school. :)

hope that wasn't too rant-y lol

you're not crazy missmuff, I too love it here, I can't see myself anywhere else and even though there is a ton of 4 DIG crap to get through, the people here and the experiences are TOTALLY worth (how's that for corny?) but seriously, I really do love it here

oh missmuff. one, very nice post. so true. and two, yes i did, and i am quite proud of it. especially after spending an hour with that group of ppl, it's totally awesome. this weekend will be a blast, as will next (poor you, seeing me three weekends in a row!!!)

I love it here as well! Although I don't show that enthusiasm as it is typically not shared with the rest of my classmates hah, sad.

A friend of mine is trying to leave with only ~50 days left.... ugh.

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHH!

lmao. But I really do, only gets better and better.

I know what you mean about enjoying those last few months of friends/family/etc. but I've already gone through that separation. It's my senior year of high school, yes, but I'm finishing my sophomore year in college about 2.5 hours away from home. So I think that'll make BCT just that much easier. I know a lot of people have troubles being away from home for the first time, but I'm way past that stage by now...which is a nice head start I guess.

I'm sure all the excitement and newness will wear off eventually, as it did for coming to my current school, but for now I'm eager to get this last semester over with and out of the way!!!
