I don't qualify for work-study, Cal Grants, or anything! Please help!

My EFC = 27847

Yeah with an EFC that much, I don't qualify for any Cal Grants, and UCSD (the school I am going to in the Fall 2010) just told me that I don't qualify for work-study either.

My mother is a Registered Nurse and she makes a lot of money but of course she also has other bills to pay and a house or two. She said she is willing to pay for all of my tuition and books plus everything they charge there except for housing - since it was my choice to go to UCSD and not UCR since it's better for my major (which is 30 mins. from home as UCSD is an hour and a half or so). So I need to come up with money for housing. Any help? Like scholarships that are focused on paying for housing only. I have applied for some but haven't heard from any yet. Or do you guys know some good banks or companies to get loans from?

Any help would be appreciated very much!

You should be eligible for $5500 of unsubsidized student Stafford loans. Those and a part time job would cover a fair part of your room and board.

A house or TWO? That second home also drove up your EFC. Everyone has bills to pay. Those are not factored into the financial aid formula because everyone has rent/mortgage, utilities, food, clothing, etc.

Consumer debt (car loans, credit cards, etc) are considered choices…also not factored into the finaid formula.

Is your mom willing to pay for your meal plan, just not the room? That could make a significant difference!
