I'm a junior and I've started looking at MANY colleges. I've done college visits and info sessions to at least 5 or 6 colleges and they all seem REALLY cool to go to. I feel undecided where I want to apply to. I LOVE the city and the city atmosphere and I know I'm a city person, but I stepped onto Ball State's campus and I really liked it. I looked at alot of NYC schools and liked those too.

Does anyone else have this dilemma? I feel like I like ALL the schools!

I visited eight schools and after each one I felt like I wanted to go to that school. For me, I just had to step back and wait a while for my thoughts to normalize again. Once you go to a college, you realize all the cool things they have that high schools don’t. It is just so exciting and you want to go there right then. I have been able to effective reduce my list down to two so far. It has taken me ten months to get to that point (visits until now) and I think I am on the right track. Since you have visited so many, it seems like there has been some time in between, but just wait a little longer. You’re only a junior and have plenty of time. Do some more research and always keep those visits in the back of your mind. They are what allows you to ultimately make a decision.

If you ask me doing many college visits during your junior year, and even senior year (unless you plan to ED) is pretty pointless. I visited 3: Brandeis, BC and Brown. Ended up only applying to one of them.

And because admissions is so crazy its better to apply to schools which you’re not so sure about anyway, and visit them once you’ve been accepted. Now I know its good to visit some schools, just so you get the general gist of what you’re looking for and to narrow your list but really, more than 3-4 visits is unnecessary. For instance, I was so convinced that I would get into Emory, and that no matter what I would at least have Emory, a very solid school to go to. However, I ended up being WL there although I got into Amherst, Northwestern, Pomona and UNC (OOS). I didn’t really think I would end up going to any of them (I am going to Pomona and am very excited).

Point is its very possible that you will not get accepted or end up going to any of the schools you visit during your junior year (if they are most selective). Coming from a senior who applied to 18 schools (nine for free), don’t get caught up in a specific school until you get accepted, you just never know.
