Hooks- Mom is from Ireland haha...and my dad is an alumnus

Vandy does not look at the writing part of the SAT so the higher above 1400 on the Math and Reasoning you can get, the better.
Take the ACT just to see how you do.
Try to obtain some leadership positions in some of your ECs.
I am not sure it’s a good idea to list that your father went to Vanderbilt. Perhaps the legacy issue seems to be the kiss of death for students here in Nashville the last couple of years, even for those whose families had multiple legacies, gave serious fundraising parties, etc.

haha what? yeah everyone says that vandy prefers minorities to legacies (assuming they don’t intersect) (didn’t they try removing legacy status as a factor at all a few years ago until donations dropped off the charts and they reinstated it?)…listing a legacy can’t possibly be a bad thing, especially if it’s a parent.

ps, take the ACT, you will do better, that’s the score range where it often helps.

Legacy admits in the Nashville and TN area are definitely down, whoistebow and I referenced that in a prior post. A local student had to submit a second page of family alums on the application, had an uncle who had been among the founders of a school at Vandy and the family had donated a lot. This student was rejected and had decent academics. Another student was a double parental legacy and got her waitlist letter the day her parents were hosting a major fundraiser for Vandy in their home, one of many events they have hosted over the years. This student was very competitive academically. It can hurt you at Vandy to be a legacy.

i think your chances are fine as long as you get good teacher recs and write interesting essays. like others have said, there are tons of legacys and kids with just as good and better test scores, but if you write personal essays that tell a story only you can tell you will stick out from others. thats the main goal, giving them a reason to pick not the other thousands of applicants

you have a good chance. it all depends on the essay , i say
