I had an alumni interview for a college that I am very interested in on Saturday, but I have completely forgotten who interviewed me! I feel awful. We actually had a really great conversation, with both of us enjoying ourselves.

I would like to send a thank you letter, but I never got the alum's contact information. Should I call the colleges alumni association office or admissions office to ask them who I interviewed with? Or send a general letter to the alumni association?

Just let it go – your efforts to discover the ID will likely be politely declined.

Not sending a TY note won’t hurt you. I can barely put a name to a face once I complete the write up. Unless I get word later that the student was admitted, it’s all done for me. TY notes, while nice, don’t influence me in the slightest.

Contact the college’s local alumni club (they probably have a Facebook page or information on the college’s website) and ask. I agree with T26E4 that your writing a note is unlikely to influence the alum’s writeup, but you may want to keep in touch with an eye toward possible future internship/job connections, especially since you enjoyed the conversation.

I had not gotten any information from the interviewer, and I did not even remember their name! I ended up contacting the admissions office, and they checked who wrote up the review. They were really nice about it. I was able to send the thank you card after all!
