I give - my chances?

I had promised myself I wouldn't do this, but I have to ask...what do y'all think my chances are?

17 yr old Caucasian (Jewish) female.

3.2 GPA at really hard private school in Oregon.
2310 SAT: 800 Writing, 800 Reading, 710 Math
790 Lit SAT II
600 Math IIc Sat II

ECs:
Editor-in-Chief, school paper (junior & senior year), staff writer all 4 years
Director & assistant director, assorted school productions (including a musical)
Model United Nations, all 4 years
Intern for Congressman Earl Blumenauer
Lit mag, all 4 years
Worked for a publishing company every summer

My "hook": I have juvenile diabetes and epilepsy, & have for the last 5+ years. I also have 2 books published (not self-published, but with an actual publisher) and a contract for a 3rd. Have been interviewed on nat'l TV and in newspapers, mags, & books about my writing.

Very, very good essay (linking diabetes & writing). Teacher recs should be strong - one from my English/Creative Writing prof (who I've taken classes from for the last 3 years), another from my French teacher, who has taught me all 4 years - I skipped from French 3 my junior year to French 5 (honors) my senior year. My school doesn't offer AP or IB classes.

My dad graduated from Yale College, my aunt was part of the first class of women admitted to Yale & attended both college and the Yale School of Forestry. However, I don't believe we've ever given any money.

Downsides: I have only 3 years of math and 3 years of science. 4 years of history, 4.5 years of English, 4 years of French, 4 years of theater (including 1 year Honors Play Production).

I am what might be called unconventional. My weakest point is my grades. What do you think?

I think you have a real good hook, solid shot.

Did you apply early? rd? You a junior?

Good test scores, math is a weakness of course, and the grades are kinda low.

Solid overall candidate, with a real hook. I'd say you're in.

I applied RD. I'm a senior, because I skipped 8th grade.

Everything looks amazing except grades. But being that you're at a private school, it's hard to tell how good/bad your GPA actually is. What is the highest GPA in your class and where do you stand in comparison to the rest of your class in terms of GPA?

books I can buy off Amazon? Titles?

friendofdarwin: a 3.8 is probably the highest anybody gets. I'm probably in the top 1/3 or top 20% of my class.

SonataX: Yeah, they're on Amazon. Let me know what you think, if you do end up reading them.

The first one, published when I was 12 or so: "It's Your Rite". I edited that & contributed.
The second one, published when I was 14: "Teen Dream Jobs"
The third one isn't up on Amazon yet, but it's called "The Diabetes Game" and should be published sometime in the next two months.

All are nonfiction. My fiction is not yet publish-worthy.

geez.. your hooks will get you in. that's crazy!

yeah.. your GPA and your Math IIC score are weak... even though 3.8 is the highest anyone got .. it still is lower than that ~

but regardless of all that stuff.. you have amazing hooks. you definitely have a chance.

Man, I always planned to have a book published by the time I applied to college...at least, between the time that my hopes for TS (Transition School at the University of Washington) were dashed to the time I decided to go from being homeschooled to publicly schooled. I don't think someone in public school has time to write a novel good enough to publish...at least, not if you enjoy theater and sleep and good grades in hard classes. Your teen dream job book looks awesome! ^_^

And if you're not in, well goldarnit, I don't stand a chance...

lavendercloud, you were homeschooled? I was homeschooled between elementary school and high school - best thing that ever happened to me (mostly because I just got to focus on writing).

Your gpa is kinda iffy, but if it's really hard, then i don't think they'll mind. Your hook is really awesome, that should get you in (I can't gurantee though)

Legacy and published vs low GPA. It's a toss up.
