I recently got back an assignment worth 10% and I got a 60 on it(I’m in Canada, so thats a C-). I’m not too happy about it and there are 4 other assignments worth 10, one worth 20 and the final is worth 30. I’ve mentioned I’ve been looking at grad school and aiming for a B+/A- average. Due to this, I was wondering, how worried over this grade should I be. Is my grade goal ruined?
Have you spoken with the professor yet? What does s/he say?
I agree with @stradmom. I think that the first thing to do is to talk to the professor. The main thing is to understand what you want to do better / differently next time. A secondary issue is that you could ask whether there is any additional work or improvement that you can do to improve this grade. Of course you should always be polite and calm when talking to a professor.
This sounds like the sort of setback that happens to everyone at some point. Way back when I was in university I recovered from worse and went on to a very good grad school. The same could be said of almost everyone who goes on to grad school.
Don’t worry. Do learn from this experience. Do find out what to do differently next time.
I got the feedback and am working on the next assignments.
Do I need extra work though? I mean it is only 10%
Can’t really relate, I’m sure it would come to it sooner or later.
“I mean it is only 10%”
Exactly. The main thing is to learn from this and do better next time.
I am almost sure that I had some tests or assignments where I got worse than 60%. I definitely remember taking tests where the class average was less than 60%, and both daughters report the same thing. You don’t want to do this all the time, but one is not going to stop you.
If an A in Canada is 80, then you will need to average (60 + 9x)/10 = 80, x = (800 - 60)/9 = 82.22 on your remaining exams to get an A. This wasn’t a math class, was it?
You need to change what you are doing for that class:
