I got accepted to St Edwards and Southwestern University and I'm not sure which one to choose

I got accepted to both of these great schools but I’m having a hard time deciding which one I should go too, I am majoring in Political Science and I am high school senior that goes to an Early college high school so I’m gonna come in with my associate’s degree in liberal arts and humanities. can anybody give me there opinion on which school is better for my major?

I’m going to go with St Ed’s and main reason is that Austin is a state capital and you’ll have a lot of interning opportunities very close by.

OP…not sure if you already had to choose which school, but St. Edwards is in the midst of some cutbacks, before choosing see if you can find out if poli sci is among the depts experiencing layoffs. https://www.kxan.com/news/education/st-edwards-university-to-impose-staff-cuts-due-to-economic-impact-of-covid-19-pandemic/

I don’t know more than that, but I would also take a closer look at their financials.

Southwestern is within easy commuting distance of Austin. It’s about 25 miles door to door from Southwestern to the state capital. In addition, most of the tech industries in Austin are on the north end in the Round Rock area where Dell is located. That’s only about 10 miles from Southwestern and closer than it would be from St. Edwards which is in South Austin.

Southwestern has more than double the endowment of St. Edwards with about 1/3 the number of students so at first glance it would seem to be in better financial shape than St. Edwards.

Southwestern: Endowment = $240 million, enrollment = 1515 students
St. Edwards: Endowment = $110 million, enrollment = 4300 students

Do either of these schools actually take your credits? Have you worked through what it means for the actual degree trajectory?

Just so you know, St. Edward’s University was having financial difficulties before Covid. I wish we would’ve known long before we did.

Yes, St. Ed’s financial problems sound quite dire, according to my dad who stays on top of these things. :frowning:

My niece just graduated from Southwestern and got a wonderful education. With her professors’ help, she got a Fulbright!! She is teaching in Chile for a year and will start the Fellowship next year.
