I got deferred from Virginia Tech early decision. Chances for regular decision? Please help!

My name is Abhi and I am a 17 year old Indian male. I’m from Northern Virginia and recently applied to Virginia Tech early decision. Virginia Tech is my first choice school and I am dying to go there. The decision came out yesterday and I ended up getting deferred. :frowning: I am now trying to worl hard for the rest of this semester to get good first semester senior year grades. I think if i work hard I can raise the GPA stated below to a 3.6, which they will see in regular decision. My stats that I applied with are shown below.

GPA weighted: 3.52 (yikes I know)

APs taken:
Sophomore Year:
AP world history

Junior Year:
AP US history
AP Physics 1
AP Psychology
AP Lang

Senior Year (the grades do not show on the early decision application but they see my course selection):
AP Calculus AB
AP Micro/Macro
AP Government
AP Literature

SAT score: 2080
Math: 710
Critical Reading: 640
Writing: 730

Extracurriculars:
JV Track and field, FBLA, Model UN, Debate, DECA, Webmaster of CISA (Indian Student Association), Red Cross, MHS, SHS (Science Honors), SHS (Spanish Honors), President of KAST (kids are Scientists Too), Key club, and probably a few more I can’t remember off of the top of my head.

Additionally, I took four years of spanish. Also, I am a first generation college student as neither of my parents completed college. I also slipped and got a couple of Cs in my High School career, which I am sure will hurt me :(. I appreciate any help with my question. Thanks!

Colleges pay little attention to your weighted GPA. The unweighted GPA is given significantly more consideration due to it being much less likely to differ from school to school. You will need to improve your GPA. Once your grades for the semester come out, send in the grade update.

Your ECs are fine as long as you can talk about each of them with substance.

That’s odd you just got your ED. I know a bunch of my son’s friends were accepted before Christmas. He’s applied but won’t hear RD until late February. Anyway I think you look good but you did not say what major you applied to. They are a lot more selective with Engineering than other majors. You SAT and 3.6 should get in you in just fine. Good luck!

sorry i copied this from an o ld post i didnt get an replies to. I posted again hoping for a reply. But I did not apply to their engineering program. I applied to their university studies. Do you think I can still get in RD?

This first semester of senior year I am doing much better than previous years. My WGPA for first semester this year should be around a 4.0. I have strong grades in all my classes except AP calc AB in which I will get a C most likely. Besides that my first sem grades are very good. With this improvement will I get in?
