Essay - how improv has enabled me to take risks…
**I’m worried about the low UF weighted GPA.
Improv has been all 4 years performing in only teen performing group in SW FL. Also, leads in shows include Sweeny in Sweeney Todd, Pippin in Pippin, Buddy in Elf, Rolf in Sound of Music, Cogsworth in Beauty in the Beast. So theater and improve was quite the commitment for me.
Thanks for the honesty and the link. I didn’t include some other ECs but I would agree with your assessment.
I think your chances are better than 50/50 if you write a good essay. I think your essay topic has the potential to be very strong. I’d try to do something creative with it. Don’t tell them about Improv & You – SHOW them! Remember they read hundreds of essays each day. Yours can definitely stand out.
Good luck!
Yes, of course a killer essay would make you stand out. Good luck.
(I’m applying this year too, so maybe we will be classmates!)
@Trisherella I am only posting this as when I have read these strings over the months I always wanted to know how they ended. With the 4.21 Florida WGPA and 1370 SAT my S got accepted to UF Fall. I really think it was that essay and ECs (HOURS of theatre). I thought he could have had more “leadership”, quite frankly. Using that last free form answer box, my S tried to tied lead roles and the responsibility to leadership. You never quite know what “did it”. Again, just posting this because my son’s stats are in the lower 25% and want to give people hope. UNIQUE Essay is critical.
Thanks for the update! I like to think that the unusual essay contributed to the acceptance. There were so many with strong scores who didn’t get in. Congrats!!! Time to relax and enjoy the success.
