I hate the food here in the dining commons.

This isn't your regular i hate crossroads thread. (also new member, but go to berkeley)

ever since i started eating here, my stomach has been messed up. today morning, when i had to go, there was no poop, just a huge flow of dark red blood. this isn't good at all and i'm incredibly scared.....

i know it is disgusting, but do you think it could be the food here? i'm too scared and i dont feel like going to class and i was crying a little earlier, because i looked some stuff up online and it pointed to bleeding ulcer or intestinal bleeding or even worse...cancer...

obviously i have to go the doctor, but i'm just scared honestly.

please give me advice and support please, i don't know what to do. there are a lot of things i haven't done in life yet...

Okay, Mom to the rescue… Don’t panic. If it is bright red blood it is usually from a hemorrhoid. Are you a male or female? If you have been doing any lifting of weights, that could be the cause. Remember blood looks much worse in the toilet. It mixes with all the water and it looks like you are bleeding to death. You aren’t. Normally this is nothing that will kill you.

Really dark red blood (kind of thick) or really black stools that look like tar are danger signals. You don’t describe that. If you are too embarrassed to talk about this here, you can send me a private message. Go to the doctor. You will be okay. If I were there, I would give you a hug. Hang in there.

i also have a midterm today and this has thrown me off. im confused and forgetting stuff now

Don’t be embarrassed to go to the doctor. It sounds like you have something like an ulcer but you can’t jump to conclusions. Also, the internet is a scary place when it comes to research symptoms. If I search causes of a broken finger nail, chances are it will point back to cancer in some way. The internet always points toward cancer, so don’t even worry about that! I doubt it that any food you ate caused you to bleed. Usually diarrhea would occur if it was a food born illness, but I wouldn’t count it out.

See a doctor asap though. The longer you prolong not treating your problem, the harder it may be to heal it. Good luck! Hope you feel better!

thank you for response rahrah. yes i will, i have an apptment coming up. yes i agree that everything points to cancer, but i guess if i know a worse case scenario, it will better prepare me? even though it may not be as bad

also i’m a little stressed about my midterm. i didn’t do very good on the last one for this class, and i can’t do bad again

1) It’s not the food unless you’ve been like this since school began. And think about all the other kids that go to this school.
2) I would agree with rahrah in that it sounds like an ulcer (although a bleeding ulcer is a pretty severe case iirc). Have you had the pain for the past month? And the fact that you’re stressed out is throwing your body out of balance.

to singly rule out the DC food as the source of blood in your stool have you tried just eating the fresh stuff (fruit, veggies, yogurt) and avoiding the fried/grilled/roasted/spicy stuff? none of the fresh foods should cause this type of digestion problem so if you still bleed after this, it might be something more-even stress or text anxiety should only make you constipated/have diarrhea at worst i would think. dont panic though just focus on successfully getting through the midterm and go see your doctor as soon as you can which it looks like you plan on doing anyway.

It’s probably the stress. My first month here I thought I was fine. I didn’t feel stressed at al but I continually had canker sores in my mouth and always felt flush. Eventually it went away.

Also eat more fiber. Just about no one gets the recommended amount of fiber in their diet.

chipotle. Get chipotlaway to cure it.

There is no pain. It just happened today morning actually…i was incredibly confused and i almost felt like fainting

it could be the stress, but idk…i hope it isn’t something bad…

i dont eat the “fresh” stuff because it doesnt really look fresh anymore to me…but thats just my opinion.

i will focus on my midterm that will happen today, thanky ou all for the advice

There is no pain associated with intestinal bleeding. Fainting is a common sign of it. Go get yourself checked out as soon as possible.

Drink a lot of water!

let me clarify, i felt like fainting because i saw the blood, not because of it lol…

You probably just need chipotleaway but see a doctor just in case.

Are you actually sick (i.e. coughing, headache, etc.) or just freaked out because you saw the blood? If you don’t like the DC food, do some grocery shopping at safeway (reachable by 51B) and make your own.

It’s probably not the food that does that…

if this persists, and your appointment isn’t within the next week, go to emergency care at the tang center. They’ll get to you within the hour. Since I’ve been here, I’ve had 2 really intense stomach ache incidents in which I had diarrhea, nausea, dizziness, popped ears, and a near fainting spell. I’d normally only get those like once a year when I lived at home but it happened twice within 2 months. The doctor thought it was stress and maybe my eating habits here and diagnosed it as gastroenteritis. You should definitely ask if it has something to do with either of those.
Good luck and feel better!!
