Here’s some background. Last summer I enrolled in two three-week courses. I completed the first course, but became very sick at the end, and had to miss almost the entirety of the second course. Because I had payed for the course, and enrolled in it before I became sick, it appears on my summer school transcript, even though I essentially never took it. This fact is somewhat identified on the transcript itself, which notes that I enrolled and did nothing else, but does not explain my particular situation.
Because I didn’t take the second course – and it has no influence on my GPA or credit situation – I omitted it from my list of self-reported courses. In fact, I was told to only list courses which counted towards credit at my institution. So, I don’t want a call in the next few weeks about some course I failed to report, when in fact I reported every course I took.
What should I do if anything at all?
You had to report classes that you were officially enrolled in, as well as courses that you physically attended. Even if you did not actually take the enrolled course, because you enrolled in the course it appears on your transcript and technically means that you took it, and you had to report it on your application. You should have reported it, and written a note on why you couldn’t finish it.
You should call whatever schools you applied to and let them know about this situation.
Sounds like you basically didn’t think you needed to report W’s.
You do. They don’t care about them, either. So you might have shot yourself in the foot for no good reason.
If it’s a major prerequisite class it’s much more serious. However, you might slide by if it’s not.
It’s always better to tell them before they find out. So I’d call and tell them. They’re going to find out anyway.
I was told by a UC admissions representative not to report the class. Specifically, I was told to only report classes that were taken for credit.
The class is not a requisite for my major. For that matter, its not a requirement for anything. I was simply interested in the subject.
Should I call them or write a note in the Transfer Undergraduate Admissions Update Form?
It seems like I will need to write this up in the Update Form regardless.
Would it be a bad idea to mention that I was told not to report the course?
Whoever told you to not report certain classes was wrong. You needed to report everything you were enrolled in, even if you didn’t physically take the class, or dropped it, or stopped showing up. Report everything.
I’ll be sure to report it. But is it really a big deal considering I didn’t take the course? Is admissions really going to care that I had enrolled in a course unrelated to my major, but didn’t take it for reasons outside of my control, enough to rescind my acceptance?
@CedarTable It may have put you over the edge of someone with similar stats. Thats why they threaten admitted applicants with voiding the acceptance if their reported classes don’t match with the official transcripts.
