I have a terrible GPA. Where am I going to go to school!?!

I'm coming to the end of Junior year and I'll be going to college in a year and a half. My GPA is awful, but I'm not a dumb kid. I want to go to college, but I'm scared that I've ruined it for myself.

I've started some college research, and I'm finding that I don't really fit in anywhere I want to go. My GPA is in like the bottom 5% of their admittance, but my SAT scores are well past the middle 50%.

Where should I be looking? CC, State? I am CLUELESS about where I stand.

I'm a white boy from Stamford, Connecticut
My GPA is 2.5 Weighted
SAT is 1750 but I'm going to take it again
I took the ACT but I haven't gotten my scores yet
Class rank is unreported until Senior year, but I think I'm top 50%
I'm taking CP Pre-Calculus, AP Statistics, AP US History, AP English, and Honors Physics
I almost failed all of the above (except for Physics I got an A), but managed to keep my head above the water.

-I'm on track to be captain of the Swim Team
-I have a job over the summer as a lifeguard
-I have a shot at Battalion Commander of my JROTC unit
-I was top 16 in the state level meet for high school

I can get excellent recommendations, everyone likes me and I've made a good impression on all of my teachers, even on the one's whose classes I've done bad in.

I want to study engineering at Virginia Tech and be a member of the corps of cadets. I'm also looking at The Citadel, UCONN, SCSU, University of New Haven, and Daniel Webster. I don't want to go outside of the East coast because it's just a train ride home. I'm also considering the military as an option when I graduate.

I'm a first generation college student if that helps

I'll take ANY advice as to where to look, where to go, and what to do.

Much of what is going to determine where you can go is how much your family can pay each year.

Your stats aren’t high enough for schools that give good financial aid. You would end up with big gaps and big loans if the schools are expensive.

How much can your parents spend?

well i think he goes into the armed forces they will pay for a lot of the tuition. the amount varies i think, but i know my friend could have gotten half of his tuition paid for.

Although going into the military is a solid idea, it is better to look into going in as an officer. My friend went to state school with ROTC, then they paid for his grad school. He is in the military as an officer and they pay for any and all grad work that he does. You may need to start at a CC, but a state school may fit the bill. Stay active in the ROTC program, and it will often bring scholarships and opportunities in your upperclass years.
