I have a year gap between my sophomor and junior year in high school! Is it bad? Will colleges reject me for that? But I have good grades(all A's) and good ec's. Will it hurt my chances?

why do you have the gap?

I needed it. That’s why.anyone? Please answer.

I doubt that it will have a big impact, especially if there is a good explanation. I recently met two siblings that are students at U. of Pennsylvania whose (well off) parents took them out of school while in their teens to travel the world. The gap year did not prevent them from getting into an Ivy League school.

Whatever your reason, don’t obsess about it. It is in the past and cannot be changed. Focus your energies on what you can do to make yourself more attractive to the colleges you are interested in. Good luck!

If the year off was to cope with an emotional illness, you might want to read some of the threads here on how to manage that in your application. Schools can be wary of kids whom they perceive as potentially fragile. If it was for any other reason, it can actually be perceived as a plus.

cltdad and M’s mom, thanks a lot. That really eased my stress. And can you give some of the links on how to manage emotional illness on my app?

Bump! Helloo!

Well it depends. Is it a problem that you’re still contending with?

If you’re applying through the Common App, perhaps you can write your essay on this experience you’ve had and how you’ve (hopefully) got over it/learned from it/etc.
