Its my junior year of high school, and just like many other teens i fell into the wrong crowd and messed up my first two years of high school, Now im doubling up, passing everything with 80’s-90’s, joining extra activities. Is there anyway i could get into Harvard? Would the dramatic change even mean anything? Ive been stressing this school my entire life, and i fell off but im climbing right back on top
What’s your GPA and test scores?
Are you a recruited athlete, URM, super rich, or otherwise have a hook? If not, I suggest you look at many different schools, not just Harvard. Harvard (and other super competitive schools) regularly turn students with perfect grades/test scores. So chances are slim no matter what, and even slimmer with low grades. The good news is: there are literally hundreds of great schools out there.
Harvard rejects something like 95% of applicants so, your chances won’t be much worse based on your first 2 years of school. Lots of their admission is subjective so, if you turn a Cs and Ds into As and develop a compelling story on the way, you’ll have a shot - but, be honest with yourself Harvard is a long shot for every applicant.
You should know though, there are LOTS of other places to get a great education. Don’t fixate on what might have been. Do your best and something will work out.
Good luck.
You said 80’s-90’s in each class. This would mean you have somewhere below 3.7. Probably not going to happen. Sophomore year grades are important. Keep trying your best and you might be able to get in somewhere like Tulane, Wash U, emory
Unfortunately, even 80’s are low for Harvard. They get so many stellar applicants out of the 40,000 who apply they don’t need to try to understand why certain students didn’t do well in prior years. I would let this dream go and embrace the many excellent schools that are within your range.
Sorry to burst your bubble of hope but Harvard is a reach under the best circumstances. Commendable to shoot high and have aspirations but acceptance to Harvard will be a challenge for you (for anyone). As was stated above, they turn away students with perfect HS grades and perfect test scores.
You have turned things around and you are back on track. You should have no problem finding a wonderful school.
Being able to use the right “accept” would be a good start in all seriousness it is hard for anybody to get into Harvard. Work on getting good test scores and EC’s. It’s fine to apply to Harvard, just have some backups in mind. Good luck!
What is exceptional about you that makes you feel worthy of Harvard’s acceptance?
And those teen are not likely to be admitted to elite schools.
Almost no chance.
Please be realistic. No. I won’t sugar-coat anything.
Many kids with perfect eveything don’t get in. Their accepted students probably have no 80s, or maybe one. Harvard doesn’t need to accept kids who are doing “extra activities” as a junior. They accept kids who have been doing amazing activites for years. Dare I even suggest this, but let’s say you are a URM, have a very tough life but still managed to do well, have dedicated and interesting ECs that you are really involved in and have been for a long time, have great teacher recs and a fantastic essay, then maybe, just maybe. Otherwise, please do not waste your time and money.
There are hundreds of great colleges that would love to have a student who has made great improvements, but for you, they won’t be Harvard. Go find the colleges you can get into and fall in love with them.
Harvard won’t “except” nor “accept” you.
That grammar error aside, Harvard, in the end, is just a name. There are tons of schools that are amazing and probably a better fit, as well as not being as cutthroat. Don’t worry about prestige. Find something right for you.
harvard is out of reach but as others have said it’s about finding a school that you’ll fit in to
