Hello, I'm from Japan. I really really want to learn Jazz piano in U.S or Canada.
First of all, I'm thinking I try to go in for summer program, but I have no ideas
where is the best college for learning Jazz Piano in U.S or Canada??

Sorry of my English. my English is not enought.

If you are serious about Jazz in Canada I would recomend McGill University in Montreal Quebec or Humber College In Toronto Ontario. McGill is without doubt the higest on the Canadian list for Jazz but Humber is right up there.

The New England Conservatory has Jazz Piano and they have open enrollment in their Prep/Continuing Education summer program. My D did an ensemble last summer with two students from China. They traveled to Boston for the summer and took classes at the New England Conservatory and Longy. I’m not sure what they did for housing.

Another option is one of the Berklee summer programs.

Oberlin has an excellent Jazz program with a new building primarily for the Jazz department, very good financial aid for international students and regional auditions in Beijing, Shanghai, Seoul, Taipei, Hong Kong, Bangkok and Singapore. The Beijing and Shanghai auditions are unified efforts with Boston University, Eastman, Ithaca and Peabody so you can apply to up to five schools with a single audition.

Are you looking for a college or summer program? Berklee in Boston is a contemporary music school with a jazz base, so jazz piano is an option.

If you are interested in a longer program, but not full time college, they also have a 5-week summer program. You apply with an intent to focus on your chosen style of contemporary music: jazz, pop/rock, funk/fusion, or pop/r&b. :

Five-Week Summer Performance Program
July 09 - August 12, 2011
US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) requires that international students enrolling in this program apply for an F-1 Student visa. International students needing visas are encouraged to apply by May 1.

Thank you for the information!!
I didn’t know Oberlin. I will look on internet.
Do you know the international student needs TOEFL to go in for summer program??

I should have been clearer in my response. I was suggesting Oberlin as a 4-year college that you may wish to explore. I do not know of any summer programs there for Jazz.
