I have no options for college..I screwed myself over

“3) You can appeal to several UCs. I heard (I think) that a person high up in UCLA admissions has an active duty military husband. I’d research that if I were you and then call that person directly… don’t screw around with the normal admissions personnel. Work the angle of your Dad.”

Hmmmm…In N.Cal. aren’t active duty military personal fairly common?

And also, what would I say to the person at UCLA that is high up?

You can’t appeal over the phone, and I’m not sure what we could talk about that has to do with my dad being in the military?..

^Hi orange283! We we in Solano county.

A 3.66 weighted GPA is not a bad GPA, but you applied to the TOP UCs and this year, I do not think that GPA along with your SATs would have gotten into the other schools regardless of your major . Based upon the people that are getting into the UC schools this year, I believe you would have had a chance at UCSC and UCR.

I use to be a huge proponent of taking the Community College route, but if your goal is to get into UCLA or UCB, I am no longer sure how good of an option that will be in two years. Realistically you will probably need a 4.00 for the major that you have picked and even then it is not going to be a sure thing.

I think you should attend UC Merced. I agree with the person who told you a bird in the hand is something you should really consider. I do not think you want to make the same mistake twice.

You can be a Rock Star a UC Merced and apply to UCB and UCLA for Grad School.

Good Luck!

My friend was in a similar situation last year. She only applied to UC Merced, ucla, UCdavis, and Berkeley. He only got into UC Merced which was a school she only applied to as a back up and didn’t even want to go to. She beat herself up about it. She went in think I’m going to transfer out of UC Merced as soon as I can. After talking to her after being tthere three months she told me it wasn’t so bad and she was reluctant to admit she actually like it there. Hope this helps

It’s been a few years since I’ve looked at this thread.
But just wanted to post an update!

I ended up taking the community college route and transferred to UCLA as a Biz Econ major against all odds
I actually first did not get accepted, but I appealed and by some miracle got in!
I just want others to know they DO have a chance at achieving their dreams! :-*

I just wrote a reply on why you should do ME at Merced before I saw your last post. The most successful young business person I know did engineering with a finance minor. Sigh that’s what happens when old posts get dredged up. It is interesting to hear updates, though. The only biz econ major at UCLA I know couldn’t get a job. Congrats, and keep us posted.
