I have the vocab lists... now what?

Last June, I got a 2050, with a 670 on my CR. Most of what pulled me down was vocab... I've noticed a lot of threads on CC regarding SAT vocab, but most of them only talk about what lists to use.

I've been making flashcards and studying all the "high-frequency" word lists, but my score isn't improving on practice tests. Rote memorization just isn't working.

So... my question is - Am I doing it wrong? How did you high-scorers study vocab? Rote memorization or something better?

Put the words on quizlet and do the “test” option. Once you get to the actual test, you should be able to first come up with your own word for the blank, and then you will be able to find the word that has a similar meaning in the answer choices.
