I got rejected last year and I’m top 20 in my class because I didn’t have enough out of school activities since varsity sports took up all my time. I didn’t bother applying again this year. It’s not very selective at my school, everyone is in it, it’s almost like Key Club.

I’d be more apt to join if it was more prestigious, but oh well.

Honestly, NHS at my school was the biggest waste of time. I’m pretty sure it made no difference at all in getting into these top schools. My friend was rejected from NHS but was ranked 5th in the class and got accepted into Stanford EA (white and non-recruited athlete) and got to talk with an admission officer who commented on how they admired his dedication to public and community service while tons of other kids were accepted to NHS but rejected from the top tier schools (i.e Ivy Leagues, JHU, Stanford, Amherst, Swarthmore, Williams etc…). Even the president of our honor society was rejected from all of her top schools and will be going to her safety school next year so don’t worry about it so much.
