Ok. ED deadline is approaching and I thought I would feel confident about her situation but I have been feeling insecure lately. I might make myself more antsy by asking for opinions but I just want to get some feedback on her chance of getting in this school to play the sport.
Her situation :
-D3 private LAC OOS (we live in CA)
-D is the coach’s top recruit and will play during freshman year because they don’t have enough players for her spot and she is the only one being recruited for that position.
-She verbally committed in May, a month after her positive over-night visit with the team.
-Her stats is at the LAC’s top 25% with the most vigorous classes possible, green light on the pre-read. Senior year is still going strong with straight A’s.
-Coach hasn’t failed getting her players through admission for the past 16 years.
-Full paid
-a minority to the college and the school has a high acceptance % of kids from CA
Is she in good shape? I hope so. Has anyone heard of students like her not getting in? Nonetheless, she has prepared essays for a couple UCs and a few LACs in CA just in case but I’m just very nervous about this whole recruiting process and the ED thing…
Hi, I am new to recruiting but not to admissions. What is the worry here, exactly? She will get in or not, that is not in your control, but you laid out a confident case. We don’t know the sport or school so no opinions are worth anything.
One concern, how is D3 ‘full paid’, are you 0 EFC or were promised full merit?
You have the usual backups for a CA kid. But no other recruiting options?
It’s understandable that you’re worrying, because that’s what we parents do, but from what you’re telling us it seems that her acceptance is a sure thing.
I worried too, six years or so ago, back when Princeton didn’t have SCEA and my son had to wait until March with nothing but a Likely Letter. Of course it was a sure thing, but I wasn’t satisfied until it was truly done.

You are right, I can’t control it but just need to talk to other people on CC to get some comfort, because I know it is a confident case but who knows… Sorry I meant we will pay everything ourselves. She is heavily recruited by a handful of other great schools but none in CA, except for a few lower academics small schools and a bunch of cc’s and jc’s. She is choosing this OOS LAC because it is one of the top 10 LAC which most suited her personality plus she really connected with the team and the coach there. She set her heart on it and doesn’t want to look back… She told all the other interested schools about her commitment and it is not easy to keep other options open while you are committed.

Worst case scenario she doesn’t get accepted and goes to another school. It’s unlikely to happen, but the world wouldn’t end, and many of those other schools might still have openings. You’ve done everything you can to make this work, so there is nothing left but to wait.
Make yourself a martini and relax. Sounds like you took all the right steps and there is nothing more you can do but sit back and wait and be proud of your daughter.

I should have faith in it and even it doesn’t turn out the way we want it, the world is not going to end. In the end, it is meant to be for her to go anywhere she belongs.
