I just submitted FAFSA, what next?

What would I do afterwards?
I got an EFC of 006270

The EFC is a measure of how much you can contribute to the cost of your education. Schools use your EFC to determine your federal student aid eligibility.

The EFC is not how much aid you will receive or how much you have to pay for college.

I still don’t quite understand this. Please help me! God Bless! Thanks!

The EFC is used to determine your eligibility for federal financial aid. At 6270 it is too high for you to receive a Pell grant, but you are eligible to take a Direct Student Loan ($5500 for your freshman year).

The schools you apply to will use the information you provided on the FAFSA form to help them determine what aid you are eligible for in the context of their school. They may also require you to fill out additional forms such as the CSS Profile to give more information about your family financial picture. In addition to federal sources of aid, they will also award state and institutional aid (if any exists).

All this information will be used to assemble a financial aid package which will be different at each school. Typically, you will get the details of these awards at or shortly after letters of acceptance are sent in the spring.

To get an estimate of your possible award, go to each school’s website and search for the net price calculator. Plug your financial data into that form, and it will give you an estimate of what you may be expected to pay.

While you are visiting those sites, get acquainted with the priority deadlines for financial aid at each school. Mark them in your planning calendar! Don’t leave any aid money behind because of missed deadlines.

I would re-login and download the FAFSA SAR for your records.
