I keep seeing online AP Courses, or High School Courses, should I take them?

And if I would take them, would Universities care whether or not its Online?

Why do you think that you need these classes? If your own high school doesn’t offer any AP courses, no college or university will expect you to take an AP course.

I would like to venture into Ivy League schooling, but Online AP Courses give me more flexibility, so I could take it in my free time while still excelling in High School

Only take if you think you can handle the online format and get a good grade.

I’ve heard some different opinions about online AP classes, but if you’re a self-motivated, capable student, then by all means.

I took AP Macro online last summer on FLVS. It was definitely harder than the average class only because of the fact that the course itself was extremely outdated and most of the quizzes and assignments did not have the information you needed to complete the activity on the website. You would actually be forced to go to an online search engine or your review books to find the answer.

However, if you don’t mind going to Google or your Princeton Review book for help, it’s extremely easy to earn an A in the course. Would I do it again? No. Way too much work. A simple assignment would take me about 2 hours to do because I had to do all that research. But if you absolutely have to, then it’s a great opportunity.

Actually in our state there is a virtual academy for the whole state and our state flagships DO expect students to seek out these activities regsrdless of where they live. Our son took several online APs and some of the teachrs were fantastic! Kids who are smart enough to take APs have what it takes to succeed in this format

@Momzie Is the virtual academy only available to those within your state? I assume since your state flagship expects students to use this resource, it must be very good.

Yes, it’s only for our state. We have some pretty rural areas and I believe it was developed for that reason.

My son self taught for 2 AP courses (Physics C and Calculus BC) through the University of California Scout site.

The cost was free, but was through his high school, so I don’t know what the cost would be normally. He enjoyed the material and received a 5 on both exams. He did not get a class credit for the courses, but would have if he had chosen the instructor led course rather than the self taught.
