I know it's a reach, but...

What are my chances?

I'm a white male from NJ. I go to a public school with a class of about 250 students. Instead of being out of 4.0, our GPAs are out of 100. I have a 90.76, unweighted. Nonetheless, I am in the fourth decile of my grade (ridiculous, right?). I have a 30 ACT score with an 8 in writing but I took it again recently. My personal essay is totally kickass and I believe my recommendations are pretty good.

I took AP Language last year and this year I am taking AP Literature, AP Bio, AP Stats, and AP Human Geography (half year). Including this year, I have taken 4.5 years of science, 4 years of english, 4 years of math, 4.5 years of social studies, 3 years of French, and a half year of Hebrew. I have also taken art classes with my school since freshman year. During my sophomore year, I spent a semester abroad in Israel. I went to an English-speaking school with other American students where I took classes in Israeli history and Hebrew as well as my normal high school classes.

As far as extracurriculars go, I think I'm average. I take part in a weekly leadership training program at my temple (9, 10, 11, 12). I still go to Hebrew school (9, 10, 11, 12) and I was a CIT at my camp (11). I also am a member of my temple's youth group (9, 10, 11, 12) I started my school's Cinematography Club and I am currently the president (12). I volunteer, through my temple, as a clown for chronically ill children and nursing homes (9, 10, 11, 12). I am a member of Math league (10, 11, 12), Mock Trial (11, 12), Newspaper Club's illustration staff (10, 11, 12), Environmental Protection Club (9, 10, 11, 12), Photography Club (12), and public service club (11, 12). I take out-of-school art classes (11, 12). I used to babysit (9) and I now work at my local movie theater (11, 12). Although I have not played any sports with my school, I was on my camp's volleyball team (9, 10, 11).

I am submitting the YourSpace section, making a booklet of about 8 pieces of art and computer graphics projects with a compilations of my in-class doodles as the cover.

Help me out here. Be honest. Is my class rank gonna kill me?

Update: I am applying early decision.

I've simplified it. Can I please get responses.

What are my chances? I'm applying early decision.

What are your SAT scores? When I last checked for Vassar in my Barron's college guidebook, it was V/M: 700/687 or something like that.

I'm using my ACT score. I got a 30.

Hey there... Id' be happy to give you my take on your chances.

Your ACT score and GPA are both within the correct range... they don't stand out as particularly impressive, but they fit with the profile of the Vassar class of 2012. What's a little disconcerting is your low class rank: the Vassar majority of Vassar students fall in the top 25% of their class, so you're a bit lower than ideal, in this department. That being said, your ECs are quite solid: you have a diversity of activities, consistent levels of participation in several of these activities (ie, involvement spanning your HS years), and a couple of leadership positions.

I'm not sure how much weight is given to your class rank by Vassar, so I'm having some trouble coming up with a final decision... Vassar is somewhere between a semi-reach and a reach for you. Basically, I think you have a decent shot at getting in.

If it makes any difference, I got a 31 on my ACT the second time with a 9 on writing
