If you actually expected an acceptance from HYPSM, that would explain your current unhappiness. I’ll plainly state my objective stats are probably stronger than yours as well as my ECs, and I wouldn’t be half surprised to be rejected/waitlisted by all of HYPS.

@ kameronsmith. ok, i was exaggerating. When i said arrogant, I didn’t mean that I looked down on a school like Cornell. i meant that i’d be fine with a school like cornell, but I wasn’t really looking at it with the same zeal as i would perhaps another school. It was like the match school between my safeties and reaches. i’m fine with all the schools that i got into, and the jhu bme program suits my interests in bme and premed. In my previous post I just wanted to hit myself a little for not really considering those schools as i should’ve. but i don’t know how showing more interest in more selective schools explains my rejections. what i do think more likely explains my rejections is that i slacked off 2nd quarter but i know that’s entirely my fault.

@jersy. when the last 5 vals/sals all went to HYPSM, wouldn’t you think you might get into at least one? perhaps your ECs are stronger than mine, perhaps not. you honestly think that if you are waitlisted/rejected by all of HYPS you wouldn’t be a surprised? you’d certainly be unhappy at least.

i can’t say i am a person that expects to get a 2400 or anything very close, but my opinion is that anyone with a 2400 score (not including those with criminal records) should be accepted into at least one hyp if not all…

Colleges want intelligent students who are also driven. Any system similar to that which you propose should also, at bare minimum, have a modest GPA requirement.

Yeah I understand that they should have at least close to a 4.0 gpa with that kind of knowledge. Though, as for ec’s, as much as we all try to do everything, a 2400 and 4.0 should be able to balance out the deal…

Personally, I don’t think GPA should be used much. It’s mostly a BS measurement of your willingness to suck up and your tolerance for busy work.

Although you were ultimately successful in that you will attend one of the top schools in the country, I was surprised that you did not fare even better in the process. Surely you were among a handful of the most statistically qualified applicants.

I know, it’s just that I really did love duke…oh well

I believe I did read somewhere the princeton admits around 50% of its 2400
I also read that for the most part, HYP accepts around 25% of valedictorian applicants
can anyone back me up?

Oh, trust me Silverturtle, I’m not sorry to be going to Princeton. But, as far as I can see, raw numbers can’t make you invincible. Not even close.

I know what you mean. I’m in a similar situation as you. Rejected by all of HYPS + lower Ivies. Not even waitlisted to any. You would think ONE of them would want me. I didn’t expect to get into all, but after reading 6 rejection letters from every Ivy applied to, I began to realize that a part of me did expect to get into at least one of them…Oh well.

UChicago seems like a good fit for me, I can’t complain.

hi everyone.
i just wanted to get some opinions.

i follow the british system, that is, a levels. i have a 2280 SAT 1 and 770 bio, 720 chem and 690 literature SAT 2s. i had 7 A’s and a B in my O levels. i also have an A in AS world history.

my transcripts arent very bad, mostly A’s and B’s with 2 C’s.

i applied early to yale and was rejected. not sure why, but my SAT 2 scores didnt get there in time, and i also applied for aid.

i applied to harvard, princeton, cornell, upenn, hopkins and stanford and was rejected by everyone except hopkins, which waitlisted me. i didnt apply for aid anywhere this time. my predicted grades reached mcgill really late, and i am wait listed there too. i dont know why a single ivy didnt even waitlist me. a friend of mine with legacy got into harvard with E’s and U’s in her transcript and a 1920 SAT, but a really good drama CV.

as for my extracurriculars, i am the author of a published book, and have taken part in various plays and competitions. i am also english editor in my school. i am devastated by my rejections.

could anyone shed some light on what went wrong?
